That was the plan, drain and fill, then do it again in short order until the fluid is clean(er)
I do mine every 6-12 months right through the dipstick tube about 4 quarts a shot at a time. Same with the brake and power steering fluid. A vacuum extractor is a great tool, turns you into a madman actually.

The radio is dead. The only thing that works is the cd eject motor. I am hoping it was a clean installation. It seems to be by the way the bluetooth mic is routed. It's an obsolete head unit, so it was done a very long time ago.

I glanced at the name on the title before the dealer put it back in the envelope, and it was a man's name on it. My guess is grandpa and/or grandma vehicle and they passed away and they survivor(s) didn't want anything to do with it and sold to auction. The dealer bought it from carmax or carfax, that is if he didn't lie to me...lol...

Good to know about crutchfield. I've heard they're overpriced, but spending more sometimes is a plus.
Nah, not overpriced imo. Also I think JVC is junk but that’s a 30 year old opinion that I haven’t tested again.
In the last couple years I’ve bought an amp, powered sub, few sets of car speakers, a head unit and some spendy marine speakers. I always compare and about half those things came from Crutchfield. Even the head unit which I didn’t need an adapter harness as it was going in the 86 with all aftermarket power and speakers, not plug n play.

It’s far better than doing nothing. However you didn’t say the condition of the fluid. Unless it’s red, I’d do a filter and then 3-5 spill n fills in succession. Literally drive it tot the store or for a day and do it again. Defeats the purpose to leave most of the old fluid in for a long time.
Same with brakes and power steering. Brakes I wait until the fluid is good and mixed. You can tell by the color change. Power steering, same as trans. Suck the res dry, refill, drive around the block, repeat until the old looks almost like the new.
This obviously uses 2-4x as much fluid but with most of the benefit and FAR less effort.
A good vacuum extractor is a very handy inexpensive tool to have for anyone who services their own stuff.
I went 20 years doing it the hard way. Not sure why….
Coolant, axles and tcase Id do as well but obviously just once.

Part of me wants just get a new jvc, but I think Pioneer or Kenwood might be better. I don't know, I am so far removed from automotive stereo systems, I don't know what is worth a darn. In the old days, Kenwood, Pioneer, Alpine seemed to be good, but that was a long time ago.

I’m old too and those are my go tooos as well, lol. Add Sony too.
The mic is literally a wire to sneak to wherever you want it. Nit sure I’ve spent more than 15 min routing a mic to a convenient spot on any vehicle since Bluetooth was invented. Including a Hoe like yours. Don’t let that be a deciding factor imo.

I did buy an extractor a few years ago, and right now I have no idea where it is. Need to get another so the old one will show up and I'll have two. Extracting fluid seems a lot better than crawling around making a mess, or trying not to make a mess. I always seem to spill the pan no matter how steady I hold it.

Eh, more truth to what he does than you think. Fluid is cheap and partial changes are easy.
Time is expensive and major repairs are too.
Example. Just sold a 19 year old boat with original functioning disc surge brakes.
I’d say on avg surge systems unmaintained last 5-10 years. Every year I dump the fluid in the master cylinder. It’s a little brown little rusty. Wipe the rust out of the reservoir and refill. Takes 10 min and 69 cents worth of brake fluid…

This is what I unearthed tonight. Not a clean install like I'd hoped.

The round one is a mic for the head unit. I don't have clue about the one on the side of the overhead console.
