I never understand the pics that thsi forum flags as "questionable". 99.9% of the time the pic being flagged is extremely benign.
Me too, but we got a good laugh from it. I showed my wife the pics and told her the forum had flagged them as needing moderator approval. @bucket wasn't afraid to reveal the boobies in the pics

After ordering the stereo and adding in the installation items, it became aware to me that these wire nuts could very well be from crutchfield, as I ordered some with my stereo. I'm thinking the wires that were cut are for the steering wheel controls. I don't know, but will find out.

I forget to add last night, that the head unit did in fact have power to it. I pulled the fuse on the back, it was good, and when I went to plug it back in, I saw a tiny spark.

I'm going to read through your thread now and educate myself what issue you're having. Hopefully I'll have some insight for you. Give me a few.....

What @TotalyHucked said was on point. Find a HU that YOU like and go through Crutchfield. When you put in what rig you're buying for they'll suggest the correct install equipment (harness, dash kit,....). You don't have to stick wtih JVC just because that's what's in there now. I like Pioneer a lot and default to that but others prefer Kenwood, Alpine, or whatever.

With that said, @Grit dog is also on to something with taking the HU out and making sure that the previous owner didn't hack up the stock harness and make the issue you're experiencing through hacking up the wiring.

If all is on the up and up and the HU is still not performing then it is most likely an internal issue to the HU and probably best to just throw in the trash and get something else.

I know I'm late to the party buy I pretty much stick to Kenwood or Pioneer for my decks. Had a Sony in a college truck, hated it. Alpine hasn't had anything I liked (or at least in my price range) in years. I've got a double din Kenwood in my '05 with a PAC harness from Crutchfield. Solid combo, very happy with it.

As for the mic's, the weird shaped one on the side of the overhead console is for the OnStar

Same....Ran Alpine in HS but they don't really wow me these days so I primarily run Pioneer. Kenwood is a close #2 for me. Sony sucks in my experience LOL

I think it's a 2005 through and through, but I could be wrong. The VIN comes up 2005 Tahoe.

I just ordered the reflector lenses and rear glass struts.

I'm not sure about the under dash or glovebox lamps, I'll have to check.

I'll have to look after work for the under hood lamp harness.

Thanks for pointing out the lack of a ground strap. I never would've known about that.
No my bad, I thought you had a pre 2003 and you had a missing ground strap

you have a ground strap, evidently covered in conduit ,not sure why.

mine was missing, so I just assumed the conduit was part of the harness for a underhood lamp but interesting. maybe it provided more strain relief.

As you can see in my background of this picture, my 2005 has the missing strap to the hood
I since replaced it with one from advanced

In my area, those ground straps started deteriorating and falling off when they were still relatively new trucks. Not all of them by any means, but it was somewhat common.

Soon to arrive:

Floor mats, third brake light, sunshade, rear door reflectors, rear glass struts.

This is what I unearthed tonight. Not a clean install like I'd hoped.

you might have a problem with radio because the truck has an analog onstar unit or the onstar unit was removed without changingg the box there in the harness

Id do everything possible to remove the analog onstar and even digital onstar boxes so that you are both not being trakced and not draining battery and not creating compat issues

The one microphone would be to use for onstar/integrated phone stuff

Are you saying you identified those cut or unused wires as a problem? Overall looks like it was done with care.

You're right, it was a pretty clean install. It wasn't until I ordered the stuff from crutchfield that I realized that those wire nuts were intentional and made for stereo installation. The cut wires, I assume were to disable the steering wheel controls? I don't know for sure, no wiring diagram yet, need to find one.
