4l80e stand alone controller

Has anyone used one of these before? I bought a 2000 model 4l80e trans to replace the 400 thats in my 79 C20 just for a stronger transmission than a 700r because I will be doing some towing with it
Or should I stay away from it, because im going to have fully rebuilt transmission with Monster parts and converter and don’t want burn it up because of a cheap Chinese part

You do realize that this is a manual control computer and that you will need to change your gears manually as a result of installing it? To me that sort of defeats the purpose of having an automatic transmission in the first place.
Plus there's no guarantee that this thing won't end up frying your transmission electronics. Personally I wouldn't touch this thing with a bargepole, let alone hook it up to any transmission in the hopes that the automotive gods smile upon me and it won't immediately toast my transmission. I'd definitely spend a lot more to have an actual automatic standalone controller and use the transmission as intended.

Another thing about that it doesnt control line pressure. Running full line pressure all the time opens a new set of problems. If you want to go manual control or electric switches, use the search engine, find links I've put up for m9ds to help the transmission live with full line pressure.. The easy cheap button is get the transmission controllerr and harness from a diesel chevy at pik n pull. The diesels used a stand alone controller.

I’d be leering of parts from Monster also, along with that controller.

My stand alone controller for my 4L80 is a GM 0411 ecm with the engine operating system turned off (except for crank signal and tps). This is in an 84 with a 6.2 diesel.

You can accomplish the same thing without a box by just jumping wires on the pigtail and feeding it 12v.

If you want it to autoshift, you'll always need a TPS, whether you use a factory LS computer, Factory diesel, aftermarket...

Also, I would not buy jack from Monster seen issues with them from pricing, warranty issues, quality control issues, shipping issues etc. etc. They may have 97% positive reviews on their site but that's why it's their site.

Monster has one of the worst reputations for transmission repairs in the industry. Its a miracle they haven't been shut down for fraud by now. They have a solid F rating with the BBB and it takes no effort at all to search for reviews and see how much they have screwed people over.

You can buy a manual VB or just run an 0411 with RPM and TPS inputs. You can get an 0411 from the junkyard for $40 with pigtails and there are companies that make TPS adapters for quadrajets.

This is the only write up I've found addressing the problems with going full manual, or switches or a cheap controller or ?. This addresses the fact, the problem and the mods required to run full line pressure. Most of the cheap solutions will be running full line pressure all the time.

Also FYI and anyone else this helps. An Isuzu TPS adapts easy to damn near anything make a bracket and use a pull wire. Went through this a year ago with a buddies truck.
