I was just getting ready to elaborate on this, you posting the videos and the extra info gives some homework.

From what I've read the HD 2-3 kit, it improves engine braking, which this vehicle doesn't seem to have much. I've never had a 4l60e so I don't know how they operate, I am learning every day.
The HD2-3 shift valve converts the 4L60E's Drive 3 strategy and application schema to that of a 700r4...The 700r4 has the overrun clutch pack come on in 1st gear and stay on until you manually upshift into OD whenever you put the shifter into Drive 3 to start. The 4L60E changed such that the overrun pack is only on in third gear when in D3. It does come on in D1 and D2 but to use it as such, you have to manually shift.

So it's a better overall strategy, especially for any HD or performance application that takes a 4L60E.

This vehicle isn't used for heavy duty stuff, but we do venture into steep terrain from time to time, and it is 4x4 and will be used as such. Would the HD 2-3 kit be a good idea?

I watched some videos on those that added the corvette servo and that made a difference for sure. If adding two low dollar solutions to make it perform better is a good thing, I am all for it. Honestly, from everything I have read and heard about these transmissions, they're either good, or they suck, and I am leery of driving with too much throttle applied now because I don't want to ruin it. The shifting is not consistent, sometimes it shifts really good, other times it's as others have mentioned, slushy, soft, like the shift didn't happen but the rpms went down. Downshifts are good, it performs there as it should, just some of the normal throttle upshifts are lackluster.

Payday is Friday, and I am ordering the corvette servo, contemplating adding the HD 2-3 kit to the order.

I'm sorry you has a bad experience over there brother. That guys is quirky but he means well. You in good hands with Nick, he is the man.
He seems knowledgeable enough, just has a combative delivery most the time, and seemed to latch on to everything I was posting. I hadn't logged in over there until Nick asked for a link to the forum I was talking about, and while I was there I ignored him. I will go back over there, I just need some time away, one bad apple shouldn't ruin the whole barrel.

Nick is the man! Been watching a lot of his videos from time to time, and they are very informative. Over my head on most stuff, but I am learning. Trying to watch and learn before asking questions so I don't waste his time. A funny analogy here: Watching his videos, to me, is like watching pro golf tournaments, you see the pro do it, you get all pumped up and tell yourself I can totally do that! But to get to that level, it takes practice and doing.

I didn't order the hd 2-3 kit, yet, need more info on whether it is overkill for a 4x4 application. I did, however, order the corvette servo from Oregon Performance Transmission along with a seal/o-ring kit for the servo. I read that you need the seal kit, and the description of the servo, I didn't have time to read every little line to verify that it came with a seal kit.

I was going to order the Sonnax servo and AC Delco seal kit from Summit, but Summit kept changing my shipping address, so I canceled the order, deleted their edited address, made sure my address was correct, placed the order again, and they changed the address again, so two canceled orders.

The HD2 kit is the best out of the box kit for those units however the entire transmission must be apart to really get your money's worth out of it. For those just looking to clean up shifts as well as install some corrective parts, the Transgo SK4L60E is perfectly fine. Unless you're making 500HP or more, you don't need the Sonnax Super Hold Servo; a regular 093 Corvette servo will meet your needs. The vette servos will come with sealing ring/o-rings that you need for all of the seals, except for the 4th gear servo piston which is inside the servo cover. If that seal is in good shape, simply reuse it.

I didn't know Sonnax had a 2nd gear corvette servo until last night, #77701-04K(0.74 ratio). They have two other 2nd gear servo offerings (0.63; 0.87) besides that 0.74 ratio corvette one, and then the 4th gear super hold. The Sonnax corvette servo was about double in price than the Oregon Performance Transmission one. I didn't see a ratio or anything like that in the description, but it provides 50% more apply pressure. I need to revisit the band adjustment video before I replace the servo.

Bumping up the thread with a tear down and inspection of a crazy and piss-poor rebuild job done by some other shop here in town only six months ago from now...Was a total disaster, lol!

fluid/filter change coming soon. Demand Dex/Merc for 2006 4l60e (4x4) stock LS swap or let him talk me into newer? Might be doing myself pending his price....but I trust his evaluation of trans (over 100k).

Either/or is fine. I’d do it yourself. Invest the money you would have paid someone else to do the service in a nice, new pan with a drain plug.

Thx Nick. Any suggested pan under $100 (deep pan)? Was gonna go with Jegs 61183 but one person left a review about the servo exhaust/bleed hole vent and having to grind down the pan in that area. If anything I'll slap the original back on.
