That's exactly what happened to mine!!! I'm betting those rear ends are a whole bunch cheaper than when I had to buy one. Most of those trucks were still on the road at that point.
It blew a spider?? I cant find a 12 bolt posi to save my life!

Yes but I was told it was because the pinion bearing failed. I remember it costing a lot of money when I got it replaced. For some reason it was a better option than replacing the ring and pinion. That was in 1990 though so I don't remember all the figures.

Them thars teef!

In the past, I've put new spider gear sets into 10 bolts that have blown them out. Some ring gears were chipped, but they weren't in the contact patch so it still worked fine when put back together. Soccer mom's killed 10 bolts on snow and ice all the time. Should be able to do the same with your 12 bolt if absolutely needed.

Good choice. Just pull the axles out of the 12 bolt and throw the rest away

I still have questions on the gut swap... is that a good price?
Use a carrier from a GMT400 10 bolt and conversion bearings and your good to go and the axles from your 12 bolt

Has to be a 10 bolt. 3.08-4.10 are the same carrier. They are all 30 spline in the GMT400 10 bolt
