I must not look under many longbed 2wd's. I thought they most all had a carrier bearing. Burbs did, and their wheelbase is 2 inches shorter.

Both my 76 and my 79 are 1 piece shafts, however the 87 that I got my A-pillar patch panels off of had a 2 piece shaft. All 2wd's.

I considered posting here about long beds and carrier bearings but the longer I thought about it, I couldn't figure a good reason WHY.

Tonite hasn't been too boring. I used the Bonnie Blazer to block a driveway, exited the truck and stood between the badguy in a Hyundai and my K5.
Turns out it was a badGIRL and she chose to stop rather than jump the curb, smash my "work truck", (or run me over).

We closed my case that's been open since September 2018. . . The ol girl is earning her keep IN SPADES tonite.

Not too shabby for a $3500 , 30 year old 4x4.

My dad bought a new ‘79 Suburban and it had a driveline vibration. They replaced the carrier bearing a few times, U-joints, both driveshafts and eventually installed a 1 piece driveshaft to fix it. This was all under warranty. Of course this isn’t relative to Big 10’s problem but if you ever see a 1 piece in a Suburban it was probably for that reason.

At this point i feel it to be less hassle to just throw in another diff as this one is a gov bomb posi that has been missing the posi parts since who knows. Plus the carrier bearing in it is sloppy and the pinion has play also... i did think of throwing in new spiders just as a band aid as i have no other vehicle and i start a new job monday. Im at a loss. If i swap rears id like another 12 bolt posi but they seem to be like finding jesus... plus its subzero here and i do not have a garage.

That's exactly what happened to mine!!! I'm betting those rear ends are a whole bunch cheaper than when I had to buy one. Most of those trucks were still on the road at that point.
