When should I change the stock front leafs?

Agreed, I've got a couple lifted trucks that ride just as "good" as stock.

Couldn't he go 33"s if he just went with 1" zero rates and moved the axle forward . That would sure be a cheap way to go. And ride would be unaffected.

I do plan to get some 22x12 -40 wheels and 31.6 x 12 tires.

I can throw some stocks/31s on if I want too.

Ok so I looked into this. This plus the ORD HD shackles. I can put it back stock if/when it goes back into storage.

What does moving the axle forward do?

So here is my plan, 31x12.50x22, concourse restore the interior with discreet sound system, and clean the undercarriage.

Now I just need to find a good restoration shop in Houston.

To a certain degree. It all depends on ride height, tire size, wheel specs and also how the truck is driven.

Yes, the first point of contact is always the rear of the wheel opening. Moving the axle forward a little will gain some clearance if you happen to be just a little short on clearance there. But if you are a lot short on clearance there, moving the axle forward will likely cause an issue at the front of the wheel opening too. In which case, you just need more lift or less tire.

But yeah -40 donk wheels and rubberbands is not many of our preferred look.
However @Joe T, what you are proposing will require more clearance than likely even 33-12.50s on 0 or slightly - offset appropriately sized rims.
That said if you’re running stretched rubber bands on fragile wheels, you’re not even driving this over a curb without being careful to not curb rash, so stuff em and drive appropriately.
If you lifted it with those wheels n tires it would look even more disproportional imo.
Also spend some time looking at the geometry of your steering/body/axle if you’re unsure what moving the axle forward does. (Tires always rub in the back first on these trucks). And Mae sure you’re up to the work or if you’re farming it all out, get the shops buy in so you’re not complaining they messed up your suspension and drivability. JMO.

No, it wheel/axle is “centered” stock. But go do what I recommended above. You’ll see the caster and shape of the truck fender wells reduce rear clearance significantly when turning the wheels.
Moving forward helps this issue.
And you’ll need to be comfortable with adjusting steering rods and moving sway bar mounts and a couple other things.

Yours gets a pass, I wouldn't classify it as "Brodozer". Your wheels aren't big enough
