Got the 14b sf project buttoned up and out of my shop (for friends 75 k5), new bearings, motive 3.73’s, Yukon Posi, B&M girdle cover, home brew rear disc brake setup.

Started doing some figuring for the 76’s new exhaust, my plan is custom sidepipes, which they may be somewhat unconventional, but doing it this way will allow me to still have an H pipe and not do the normal snake of piping to hookup regular side pipes. This is just mocking up with stuff I had lying around and 3d printed mandrel bends for fit up. The final product will be all stainless. Also got a Budge indoor cover for the 76 and 79, Amazon had them for a good price and jumped on them. Hopefully help with dust mitigation when I start doing more block sanding.

Replaced the speedo cable. PO just cut it at the transfer case.
It is jumpy and loudly clicking.
From what I’ve read, it needs to be lubed?

If lube doesn't work, the cable might be frayed.
New cables aren't very expensive.

Any particular type of recommendations for lube for the speedo cable?
Silicone spray, ptfe "dry" bicycle chain lube, or other?

Dry graphite powder. It's the only thing I've ever had good luck with.

Back in the day.......WAY back.....we used sylglide(SP) in a plastic tube, almost like vaseline. Pull the cable out, clean it and start about 6 inches from the speedo head end and lightly coat it all the way down to the other square end.

They still make the stuff, Napa has their own branded stuff. I primarily use it for the contact points on brake pads. But it works great for a whole slew of other uses too.

Did it last a long time for speedo cable lube? Seems to me like anything that let's dirt and debris stick into it will just gum up a speedo cable later on.
