I liked that because it did its job, it popped out instead of the block cracking

Yeah, better to have it pop. I had one that didn't and a newly rebuilt engine had a 9 inch crack in the block. Used some Silver Seal on it and ran it, but never really trusted that engine completely.

I have a very sturdy Craftsman 3 ton floor jack from before craftsman was a different way to spell Kmart. It began leaking recently.
Seeing as you’re not too far away, if you want it to rebuild let me know.
Still works and holds just leaks.
I’m gonna toss it in the garbage otherwise likely.
Or anyone else near Spokane is welcome to it as well

Thanks but I have a craftsman 2 ton as well, it bleeds off so it will be my next one when I get time

Oil has been seeping from the 2 center bolts of the intake manifold (passenger side). I've cleaned it up multiple times and verified the bolts were tight, but the mess would be back a few days later. Quadrajet is off (rebuild on the way from National Carburetor) so might as well try again.
Reading through the forum topics for Intake manifolds I discovered that applying thread sealant to these bolts is needed. Removed them, cleaned with wire brush and carb cleaner, apply WAY too much thread sealant, reinstall and torque to 30 ft lbs. Can it really be that easy of a fix? Won't know until I get the carb installed but heres hoping!

I'm really hoping that's the case as I don't believe it got below -20 which is what the mix was at. The side of the plug shows no signs of any kind of sealer, and the surface of the opening feels a bit rough so maybe the block just shrunk and spit it out.

Downside is it's the one behind the upper engine mount which is going to be fun to get too.

Stuck my camera in everywhere I could to get a good look at both sides of the block and thankfully don't see anything. Nothing in the oil fires right up no noise no steam or smoke so think I got lucky.

Of all the freeze plugs I have installed, none had sealer. Pop never said to add sealer, just install them dry. Maybe he was wrong? I don't know. He's a great mechanic, so who knows if it's right or wrong to install them with sealer.

My auto mechanics teacher in high school (1969?) said no sealer...

Mines doing that too.. I didnt know about this trick. May need to give it a try myself. Thanks for posting this up.

Never saw a white lettered painted one. The Chevy "VAN" is in bright chrome, no paint.

I remember my first freeze plug failure, back of the block on a 10 yr old ‘72 Corvette.. ruined the clutch disc.
I had only owned the car for a couple of weeks, and it took me several days to change them all
