They didn't use exhaust manifold gaskets when new. Rumor is they were more prone to crack exhaust manifolds when they had gaskets.

That's what I heard. I guess the silver lining being that after 41 years the heads and manifolds are still pretty true since it was a minor leak were a bolt was missing on the passenger side.

The bs with the alternator continues. I hate this bastard! It's even farther off now with the bottom bracket and spacer. The top bracket is got from summit was not even close to fitting. So I'm gonna go back and make it work with the other bracket because it closer.

Seems you might have a combo of short and long water pump brackets.

Relocate the bung. Plug and weld in another in different spot maybe?

This ^ That bung looks to be right in the middle of the merge in the collector it should sit farther back to get a good read on all of the output not just the closest one or two. Put a new bung in the top or bottom of the pipe (which ever has the best clearance) behind the collector flange about 12" or less of the collector.

It could be worse, lol. In the 90's, there were cheap headers available for the 3rd gen F-body that had the O2 bung in the #5 primary tube.

So everything appeared fine, but once I actually had it in the truck bolted in entirely (motor mounts, bellhousing, etc) sitting where it would sit, then I saw the bung.

I'm either gonna take it off and have it professionally relocated as stated by @xm20k or notch the frame a little bit and put a 90 degree bung adapter on it. Which I'm not too keen on because then i feel like it's not technically getting direct exhaust reading as it normally would. . .

It's not that hard, screw a plug in the header weld a bung in the down pipe. The O2 sensor won't know the difference especially if you go 3 wire.

Yup, research "saddle bung" - $7 - $10.

Started planning out my new rear bumper , I am not liking the one that is on it now and I dont like any others out there so I thought I'd try and make one that I did like . I am not 100% sure this is what I will be going with but it's a start .

Install all the new steering linkages, used antiseize under the caps, installed the frame to cross member supports, cleaned up and painted the last dust shield before reinstalling the motivator.

Painted grill, head light buckets, and interior trim pieces; most of you won’t like the white but my truck my way, no pics too much going on Saturday. Also added a coat of white to the door bottom two tone. Gonna try to get moving on this again to at least seal it up for winter so I don’t need the tarp.
