So my older brother wanted a truck and finally started looking in the usual places.
His budget is big enough that it could have been a totally cleaned up and resto modded cruiser if thats what we had found.
But those often don't need much done to them and that isn't always the most fun.
So our parameters were pre 1975 GM to avoid the emissions demons, plus they just look cooler.
I told him to stick to the GM stuff as we know it the best and have many spare parts on hand for them.
Then one fell into our laps, it was a 1968 3/4 ton with a mystery engine and a crappy manual transmission.
The reason it fell into our laps was that it was owned by one of Max's buddies dads and he bought it to flip it from a tow auction.
But, it had a wicked knock if you were hard on the accelerator.
When it was purchased there was a mystery engine in the bed that was supposedly ready to go.
Although, with some looking you could see some surface rust in the ports.
Someone had put in an under bed fuel tank with a wonky filler neck in the rear corner of the bed.
It needs tires furiously and the upper channel of the front window needed repair soon.
But it ran and drove and looked like somebody at some point had loved it.
We knew what it was purchased for and would have happily cashed him out knowing about the issues that would need to be handled right off the bat.
Duane, the actual owner knew we were players as that was what we told his son who was showing the truck to us in the photo above.
With that information he told his son to tell us he wanted $1000 more than he paid for it and that he might put an ad up on marketplace "just to see what happens"
The market for these trucks in the $3000 range is saturated in our area right now.
So I told Jacob to tell his father we don't want anything to do with it anymore.
"They're not even interested for the 3k?"
Not even a little bit you doink.
