I think a rod spun a bearing in my rebuilt 454

$5800?

A used engine that is in good shape could not be more than $500 or so. No?
Maybe $400 labor to swap it, no?

Labor was $3200 and parts was $2600 ($5800 all in for a complete long block).

Looks like now it will be more. If I have to replace all bearings due to metal contamination, piston potential replacement, rods, and maybe crank.
I doubt it's that bad. Rods can be checked and resized, crank can be ground, very unlikely pistons got damaged.

No. Even though it ain't an LS, big blocks still ain't cheap and still fairly difficult to get ahold of.

I found a crate gm vortec 8100 local that I can snag for $3800 but I bet it will be a pain in the ass to swap. I have the sniper setup for this motor, Afr heads, etc.

That's basically going a whole other direction. There's a lot of other parts you would need (like the entire accessory drive) and you wouldn't be able to use any of your existing stuff like heads and cam. I wouldn't go that route, and this is coming from someone that has an 8.1 swap in the works.
