I think a rod spun a bearing in my rebuilt 454

$5800?

A used engine that is in good shape could not be more than $500 or so. No?
Maybe $400 labor to swap it, no?

Labor was $3200 and parts was $2600 ($5800 all in for a complete long block).

Looks like now it will be more. If I have to replace all bearings due to metal contamination, piston potential replacement, rods, and maybe crank.
I doubt it's that bad. Rods can be checked and resized, crank can be ground, very unlikely pistons got damaged.

No. Even though it ain't an LS, big blocks still ain't cheap and still fairly difficult to get ahold of.

I found a crate gm vortec 8100 local that I can snag for $3800 but I bet it will be a pain in the ass to swap. I have the sniper setup for this motor, Afr heads, etc.

That's basically going a whole other direction. There's a lot of other parts you would need (like the entire accessory drive) and you wouldn't be able to use any of your existing stuff like heads and cam. I wouldn't go that route, and this is coming from someone that has an 8.1 swap in the works.

Yea,but not hurt bad. Grind the crank resize that one rod, clean, check and double check all oil clearances .
But a full cleaning, and bearing replacement is needed. I don’t really trust the cook who burned the food to recook me more.

I think you need to pay someone else to straighten this thing out. I would give the current shop a chance to do the right thing and refund your money. If they don't take them to small claims court. You will have a very good chance of winning.

I paid with cc. I can just contest the charge and get a chargeback.

I think Ricko and some others are giving some solid advice and I'd definitely stick with what you already have.

If it's a true reputable machine/ engine shop, I'd give them a second chance as they "should" know what they are doing.

If going to another shop, this is what I suspect you'd pay:
Turn crank, assuming it's not already 30/30 runs $200-300. Lot of good machine shops still send their cranks out. Mark your crank to ensure you get the same back.

R&R rod, press 1 piston, balance 1 rod, etc should be about $100. Core $15-25 if needed. For me, 50% of the time the rod bearing spun, rod twisted/bent a few thousandths.

Gaskets, bearings, $400.

Dissembly, cleaning, assembly $500 plus.

By the time you add fluids, incidentals, etc, you'll be at $2k
