Hello, my 76 Cheyenne is too quiet. It currently has stock manifolds into a y-pipe to a catalytic converter, about 30 inches of pipe to a generic large muffler and the above the axle and out behind the wheel. It sounds pretty good when you get up on it, however in the cab it is way to quiet. https://youtu.be/T2ZhulZ6Dd4

Here is a video of my late Grandfathers 72 C-20. Has a 350 with stock manifolds and twin pipes to glass packs above the axle. This is the sound I want, however just in a single exit.

What I am thinking is get rid of the Cat, put a 22"-30" glass pack (what I need help with, choosing length and location), then current exit out behind the axle.

I would love to hear your suggestions and recommendations and if you have a similar setup. Thanks for stopping on by.

The larger the glasspack the quieter it will be.

I have a buddy that ran a pair of DYNOMAX RACE BULLETS , and they are pretty rad.

Quiet and rumbledy at idle but a rather unique sound at WOT. Not unlike a glasspack, but definitely different.
You may enjoy checking those out! Good luck!

I'm currently running stock manifolds into 2" true duals into 2.5" In/Out Flowmaster 40 series dumped under the bed, before the axle.

Its the sound that I want, but is a bit droney since it doesn't have any pipe after the mufflers.

I'd say it sounds pretty similar to this guy's truck: https://youtu.be/UUUPptpKJhg

Im running summit headers into true duels into Thrush mufflers dumped right behind the axle. has a real good sound at idle and really turns heads at higher rpms, but not so much that it gets annoying or keeps you from holding a conversation in the cab.

Here's my 88' TBI 350 with a new 3" CAT and a single 3"x24" glasspack then over the axle.

If you get a glasspack make sure it's the perforated style inside with just a bunch of holes. Not the louvered style inside they are way more restrictive.

I will be using Hedman headers on a 468, 2 1/2" pipe with crossover into Flowmaster 50 series 3 chamber mufflers, tailpipes exiting behind the rear tires.

First I would like to thank everyone for their suggestions. I ended up going with a 25" Thrush glasspack and I think it sounds pretty good. It still has the Cat and I still need to get the tailpipe put back on.

Anyways here is a video of it..

This is a stock muffler replacement by Walker:

http://www.walkerexhaust.com/catalog/walker-exhaust-systems/e-catalog-lookup/21910

I suggest you look for a performance muffler with the same overall size and configuration. Probably won't find one with 2-1/2 input and 2-/14 out, but that's easy enough to address with a tapered adapter.

So what you want is:

2-1/2" in & out (output will need an adapter to your 2-1/4" pipe.
Offset inlet / offset outlet
21" body length (or maybe 18"-19" if you use an adapter)
Approximately 4-1/4" x 9-3/4" oval body

You'll probably find dozens, from mellow to loud.

***Whoops, guess I should have read the entire thread! Glad you found something you like. When you can afford it, duals will make a noticeable seat-of-the-pants difference. Probably the best bang for the buck in all of hot-rodding.

I do plan on putting duals in the future, welding the tailpipe today was good practice for when I get around to it next summer or so...

I'm actually running true dual 2 1/4" pipe with dual 12" glasspacks with 3 1/2" tips and it's loud as all get out and I love it
