@82sbshortbed are there screws on the inside of the tailgate in the recessed panels? That is how my 76’s tailgate band is held on.

I know i can't make it perfect but I believe I can make it better. Hitting it with some Sunmight 1000 today on the ROS. Dry. Just getting started so this might take a minute. 1500 and 3k to come after.

I’ve done a few things on my truck lately but this has been the coolest/most useful. It’s a flip down step so you can get up into the engine bay easier. I guess its usefulness depends on how good your tuck is running but for me its been great!

Be careful on them edges. Especially if you’re power sanding. You’ve been flirting with danger there.
And don’t try to get them scratches out.
Also keep at the 600-1000 until all the orange peel is gone.
If you go finer than 1200-1500, you’re past being productive with finer grit, IMO. You said it yourself, not a show car and med/heavy cut compound will take out 1200 scratches.
I’ve learned this because I’m a better sander than painter…lol.

Sanded and primered the bottom of the tailgate before the rain hit.
Anyone know how to pop off the tailgate insert? That would be easier for me to sand and paint.

Should be four screws on the backside securing it, carefully remove screws so it comes off, you may need an impact screw driver if too tight.

Interesting. I visualized diamond plate or some tractionally similar, like expanded metal in the footwell. Something rounded, or quickedge, on the cutouts and I'd be a happy camper. Otherwise, awesome. Giving me inspiration man.....

Got it sanded. Ran out of light gray primer so I have some dark gray. So I'm gonna spray the middle and then wet sand it to kinda feather it around the tailgate insert.

Not gonna be perfect but we'll see what happens when I'm done sanding it. Let y'all know how it turns out.

went for what I could afford and the thought at that time. Grate material probably would be better.

It's still cool. Since it's made of real steel, future adjustments if you wanted should be a breeze. Let us know how well it met your expectations after a period of time.

How many □ are out there with a bumper like that? Not many man!

Paint it with epoxy paint, sprinkle Sand in the paint in the footwell while the paint is wet, so your feet don't slip out when your shoes are wet.

Bucket, were you in Ft Wayne IN with the Power Tour Friday night? A buddy and I drove up and went through some of the hotel parking lots where you guys were, looking

at the Cars(&trucks) enjoying the crowds. Did you happen to see a maroon SB squarebody crawling through with two suspicious characters pointing and gawking? That looked like real fun.
I’d have loved to met you in person. You helped me put my truck together!

The Ft Wayne stop was Wednesday, we didn't get to see much that day, due to fuel pump issues about an hour west of town. We got to the venue when most people were leaving, then we stayed in Columbia City for the night and there were only like 6 or 7 other Power Tour folks there that night.

Put these mud flaps on that I’ve had kicking around. Got brackets from the junkyard recently and thought I’d see how they looked. They are net required where I live and I don’t drive this truck on the highway. So they would mostly just be for protecting the paint on the truck.

But I’m rather concerned about how close they are to the wheels. Even with the anti-sail brackets they just look to close. What do you guys think?
