When I have a chance I will try to get better pics of the marks on the panel and post them.
Same driver's side bedside panel not in direct sun light: top with paint like it should look, and the clouded part on lower portion. Then just the lower portion with camera slightly backed off.

I washed it and spray waxed it because it was about time to, I wanted to drive it to the bay today, and in hopes of getting some cloudiness in the paint out. Unfortunately it appears the $60 "waterproof" cover I bought off Slambazon is not 100% waterproof.

It definitely said it was 100% waterproof/weatherproof. When taking the cover off the first time there was a little bit of water on the paint under the cover, and I have speculated ever since. After two different weeks of heavy rain I have seen my paint become obviously worse from this cover being stuck to it while it was, well....not dry, like it should have been. I am done with it, but the damage is also done. The paint on this truck was obviously aged already but the cover matted to the truck wet, then dry, then extremely hot etc...I believe has clearcoat getting thin, flaking off, bubbling. Just worse in general.

The worst is where the cover was the most taught. The drivers side bedside panel and the top of the hard cover have obvious damage and cloudiness. The white discoloration on the edge of the hardcover and paint that is missing was slightly beginning but now has spread. The spot on bedside was never there before. Do any of you knowledgeable folks (paint/body guys and gals)think there is any saving the paint on the bedside panel? I know the cover is different. I do not know the brand of cover but it is fiberglass underneath and the paint was matched but different material for the paint process. I have no clue when the cover was put on but has been on it the whole time I have known it.

I'd try wet sanding the areas with 1000 grit sand paper. I could send you some of the big bite 800 grit compound and cherry wet wax to apply afterwards and see if that helps. It should make it look better.

Get you a DA buffer to apply compound and wax. I got a black and decker one off Amazon that has worked great for me.

Amazon also has a pack of different pads for the buffer that I got too.

Let me know if you wanna try some and I'll send it to ya. Sent some samples to a member this week that wanted to try them out.

Well I got the new battery and 94 amp alternator on today. Sometimes auto zone surprises me. Nobody had a high output alternator in stock. So I pulled into auto zone because O'Reilly had more cars in the lot. They didn't have it in stock but had one there in about 2 hours for me to come pick up. We'll see how long it lasts but it does have lifetime warranty with it so there's that. Oh, and guess what? The belt squeak is gone! Yay! Guess it was the old alternator pulley that was the problem.

Charging like a champ now.

Just gotta try and see. Single stage will be black residue when you sand/cut/polish. If it’s clear coat it will be ….clear.

That’s very generous of you. However not wise to start that coarse especially on paint you don’t know how thick it is.
And fwiw, if spending money just get a rotary polisher or use a drill if not much surface area. You’ll spend a month of sundays taking out sand scratches with a DA. Better than by hand but not conducive to actual compound and polish on any quality surfaces that are hard. DA works ok on old lacquer etc that is soft.

Finally got around to installing the new rear bench from a 14-18 Silverado, painted the passengers side door, and got a new to me dash installed that doesn't have nearly as many cracks as the original one and installed new front shocks. Still a work in progress, but moving forward.

I agree. Play it safe and start with 2000 grit, wet sanding. If it doesn't seem to do much to help after buffing, try 1500 wetsand, then buff with compound. Keep with as fine of a sandpaper as you can get away with.

I finished up a few odds and ends after installing the fender well headers and new exhaust and fuel cell plumbing.
Was going to take her for a spin and before even getting out of the driveway realized I have a lot less steering angle, and the 8x20 255/45/20 front wheels are hitting the headers. Doing some measurements after pulling the wheels off and setting her on a set of jack stands to compress the suspension, I need to be about 2-2.5 inch narrower and about an 1" shorter over all on wheel and tire size. Shorter tire wouldn't be an issue, but wheel width is as American Racing 20s are 8" or wider. Looked at other sizes, even switching my studs to the other holes in the Wilwood hubs for 5 on 4 3/4 was only finding a 15" wheel. So, looks like I'll be swapping over to a different brand all together.

In doing so found and ordered a pair of these. At a later date will pick up a set for the rear.

Running a set of these tires.

Took a load of yard waste and rotten wood to the local dump. Treated the beast to a fuel fill up, the first one all year. Tells you how much it doesn't get driven until summer. Fun and enjoyable to drive, and people look at me!

Broke out some medium cutting compound and buff the plastic turn signals for a couple of minutes.
