I washed it and spray waxed it because it was about time to, I wanted to drive it to the bay today, and in hopes of getting some cloudiness in the paint out. Unfortunately it appears the $60 "waterproof" cover I bought off Slambazon is not 100% waterproof.
It definitely said it was 100% waterproof/weatherproof. When taking the cover off the first time there was a little bit of water on the paint under the cover, and I have speculated ever since. After two different weeks of heavy rain I have seen my paint become obviously worse from this cover being stuck to it while it was, well....not dry, like it should have been. I am done with it, but the damage is also done. The paint on this truck was obviously aged already but the cover matted to the truck wet, then dry, then extremely hot etc...I believe has clearcoat getting thin, flaking off, bubbling. Just worse in general.
The worst is where the cover was the most taught. The drivers side bedside panel and the top of the hard cover have obvious damage and cloudiness. The white discoloration on the edge of the hardcover and paint that is missing was slightly beginning but now has spread. The spot on bedside was never there before. Do any of you knowledgeable folks (paint/body guys and gals)think there is any saving the paint on the bedside panel? I know the cover is different. I do not know the brand of cover but it is fiberglass underneath and the paint was matched but different material for the paint process. I have no clue when the cover was put on but has been on it the whole time I have known it.
