It didn't even have any sound deadening - just 4 loafs of some sort of foam-turds. Thats going away as well.
@Keith Seymore

Keith - do you recall them using this at assembly? If so, what did they use and how did they apply it?

I washed it and spray waxed it because it was about time to, I wanted to drive it to the bay today, and in hopes of getting some cloudiness in the paint out. Unfortunately it appears the $60 "waterproof" cover I bought off Slambazon is not 100% waterproof.

It definitely said it was 100% waterproof/weatherproof. When taking the cover off the first time there was a little bit of water on the paint under the cover, and I have speculated ever since. After two different weeks of heavy rain I have seen my paint become obviously worse from this cover being stuck to it while it was, well....not dry, like it should have been. I am done with it, but the damage is also done. The paint on this truck was obviously aged already but the cover matted to the truck wet, then dry, then extremely hot etc...I believe has clearcoat getting thin, flaking off, bubbling. Just worse in general.

The worst is where the cover was the most taught. The drivers side bedside panel and the top of the hard cover have obvious damage and cloudiness. The white discoloration on the edge of the hardcover and paint that is missing was slightly beginning but now has spread. The spot on bedside was never there before. Do any of you knowledgeable folks (paint/body guys and gals)think there is any saving the paint on the bedside panel? I know the cover is different. I do not know the brand of cover but it is fiberglass underneath and the paint was matched but different material for the paint process. I have no clue when the cover was put on but has been on it the whole time I have known it.

Hood inner to outer (or a passenger car trunk panel) had a little dollop of some kind of adhesive in specific spots. Those panels came to the plant already assembled, so I don't know what was used but it did stay soft over time.

The cab/body shop was fully automated (at Flint Line 1, anyway) so you fed small pieces of metal in and about 8 hours later a completed pickup cab popped out. It was hard to get a good look in there so I don't know what was used or how it was applied.

My brother in law worked in the Line 2 cab shop (Blazer and Suburban). I can ask him if he knows next time I see him.

Cleaned and installed the ac evaporator box, and cab vent system. Redid some tail light wire splices, shiny tape and gaskets; sprayed and removed two hornet nests in the right corner. Installed battery tray so I can go to the car wash to again spray the underside for some more coatings. Washed the used burgundy carpet so I can dye it brown. Drilled and installed a couple 3.5” SKAR speakers in the dash; gonna be an 8 speaker system.

The second grille I picked up last week has been staring at me every time I go into the garage. I couldn't take it any longer and decided to try and fix the broken grills and repaint it.

I decided to go with a black grill and silver for the main areas. In hindsight I should have tried one of those chrome paints. Maybe it would have made it look nicer, but for now it will do.

Couldn't find any of the Testors paint up here, so I tried some of this other enamel I found at a local hobby store. Orange was too light, so I added a bit of red to get a bit deeper color for the GMC on the grill.
I repainted the GMC on the other grille as well. Looks good I think.
I am not sure which grille I like better, but the silver one is on there now and we will go with it.

Didn't realize until I was finished that I should have removed one of the grills at the centre section for access to the hood latch. I can reach the latch fine, but maybe I will need to remove it if it becomes an issue.

I actually like both of them! The GMC lettering in this era (73-80) seems to me to be a color like the Chevy engine orange, a reddish orange. Dad had a 75 Sierra Classic and our parts store had a 78 Sierra and an 81 Sierra shop trucks. So I'm quite familiar with the logos!
IIRC the factory grille for an 80 Sierra Classic is similar to the 78-79 but with a color matched bar across the center bar. But what you have is pretty close to that....
Not too many factory original 80s left to compare it to anyway....

Paint process is the same metal or glass. The tonneau just has peeling clear coat. Only solution is sand/strip and repaint.
The mark on the side is curious as I don’t think the wet cover would cause that. (It didn’t cause the peeling clear coat either). Looks sort of like a paint repair blend line.
Is the truck 2 stage or single stage paint ?

I do not know if it is 2 stage or single. I did ask the PO when I was buying it if it was original and he said it had been repainted.

Not sure if that means touched up here and there as I would imagine. I do know there is a receipt from a touch up on the roof and the painter at the shop recommended the whole truck be stripped and repainted in the notes.

When I have a chance I will try to get better pics of the marks on the panel and post them.

One LMC bumper on and one more LMC bumper to go.

Oh one last note, PITA, as a YouTuber noted, no instructions.
