Cool concept. One of the smarter features of some newer pickups are the bumper steps.
Maybe slap some seam sealer over them booger welds to pretty it up before paint.
For non skid, assuming you’re not going for mud covered muck boots every time you use the step, the epoxy n sand idea is a good one. Or if you want something replaceable and protect the paint, buy a small length if non skid tape. There are “nicer” products than the black sand paper tape that you use on your great aunt Edna’s front steps so she don’t break a hip. And $20 worth will be enough to re-cover it 5x in the future.
One suggestion is fab up a block off panel a bit wider on the front hidden edge to keep mud out of the step. Unless of course you’re running good mud flaps.

Installed step bumper. Leaving drivers side a tad loose to cold bend it up.

Trying to figure out if chrome carriage bolts and plate lights or black. Make it not so blacked out.

Or weld in a piece of perforated metal anti-skid where you'll be stepping:

I may have a bead welded around the edge or a piece of metal tacked on the edge. Hell a few "dress" bolts shot up from the bottom with the nuts on top may suffice.

Started installing my dual exhaust system. It includes long-tube headers, custom bent pipes, a Flowtech H-pipe kit, and two Cherry Bomb glass packs because I never left my teen years maturity-wise. I'm still piecing and building it as a DIY (and built-it-myself) system, but this is the stuff I enjoy doing on my days off. Otherwise, I'd get rid of my shop and tools.

One of my cars has headers, home-fabbed duals and glass packs. It just dumps before the axle. People can say what they want about the lowly glass pack, it's one of my favorite sounding exhausts.

This is exactly what I was thinking too. Didn't know what to call it. That's the $hit right there!!

Been driving it since it stopped raining yesterday afternoon. To the kids swim-meet(make up date, first try was called because of thunder, 2 days ago)last night. To work today. Trying to get some time in since I will be away for a week. Maybe I can go somewhere later today as well.

I found a set of big block 049 heads with 2.19/1.88 valves for 400 dollars... is this a good deal or not?

I plan on building a motor for towing

That's about normal from what I've run across.

Finally installed new fender trim. Sucks drilling holes in new bed sides but looks better. Have a good 4th everyone!

looks nice, I would have done the same but they tend to trap water and hide rust formation.
