I have a 1987 Chevy R10 pickup andI have noclue what Transmission is in it.

Sources tell me that this truck had several options for transmissions.

1. 700 R4
2. TH400
3. TH350
4. M38 Metric

Its not a 700 R4 because the truck doesn't have overdrive. It shifts 3 times.
I have never heard of the M38 Metric.

The problem that I have is it seems to shift at very high RPMs but it will shift.
Do you think a clogged filter would be causing this?

If it shifts 3 times it has 4 speeds. It starts in first and doesn't shift there, or am I missing something?

It shifts fine but it shifts at what seems like very high RPMs.

I was told it can be a vacuum leak.
