Well, the bearings are toast. And even with a chip off the pinion, that force could have caused minute cracks elsewhere.
You'll have to give the entire housing a good flush and I'd still use a magnetic filler plug on the rebuild.

I have been sending a ton of brake clean down there. Any other way to flush it quicker? Or keep sending rags and brake clean ?

Maybe I’ll try it and let you know. I went ahead and ordered the whole master kit. Might add this into the fray and give it a shot.
Also decided to yank the whole axle out. Easier to work on. Might as well begin the 4 link swap in the rear. Needed a few more parts to officially have everything. But at this point I’m already both feet in. Just be redundant later down the road

You’ll get most grit out that way. A few years ago I knocked 3 teeth off the ring gear and 1 wedged between the pinion and ring gear and totally locked it down. Had a flat bed wrecker bring her home. Once I seen the damage, I tried several cans of brake clean but it only cleaned what was accessible. Went ahead and dropped the rear and took it to the car wash. Hard to believe how much fine metal came out of both housing tubes. You could always run it and then change the fluid I guess. Just something to consider seeing how you’re going with all new bearings.

That’s what I’ll do .. I’m going to be welding on it. I’ll degrease the inside and out. Wire wheel it all down. Get it ready for paint.

With hard to reach stubborn grime I bring out the Big Dog... gasoline. Plugs the ends (rubber and hose clamps) and fill the bitch with gas.
Come back the next day and drain it. Finish off with brake cleaner.

I have a gallon of the high temp POR15 I know some of us don’t agree that it needs to go on salvageable pieces of steel. But I have it so it’s going on it.

Dry fitting 4 link bracket. might weld it up today. Depends on the wife. LOL. She won’t let me use gas in the garage this time of day. They’re home and it blows the smell into the house when the heater is running.
