Had a couple things I had to do so I couldn't do much.
Obviously motor is in and bolted to bell housing and T/C.
I was able to set the mounts right on the frame, about an inch from home and just slide it back by hand.
The passenger side dowel pin lined right up and I got a bolt to start in. The driver side just needed a little jack up about 3/8" and it started in. All bolts went right in.
All by myself. Whoot hoot.!
Tomorrow, I will have to use a drift pin to get the motor mounts in line with the bolt holes. The new mount rubbers are making things a tad tight. But I expected that.
If all goes well, it might be running by noon...ish...

BTW...
After sleeping on it, the second shift mechanics did not like the idea of using a ground-down tapered bolt to help with lining up motor to bell housing.
And here's their reasoning...
If the bolts were in the motor and something shifted or moved with a lot of enertia behind it, a threaded hole in the block or a thru hole in the bell housing could be broken off.
Not worth the risk.
Better to take time to line things up.

To do list for tomorrow.
Install headers.
Install spark plugs.
S/P wires.
Fill coolant.
Install battery.
Double check everything.
Light it up.
Set timing.
Double check everything.
Bolt hood on.
Enjoy.

Sorry, I didn't take any photos.

N.M. Not the truck I thought it was. My comment was for mid 80s 305. Which I thought he was working on.

She is back on the road.
I will have the replace the hi side p/s hose. I did the low side & hoped the hi side would be ok....it is not ok.
Other than that...it sounds amazing. Runs so nice.
Funny. Just by eye, I set it to 2° before putting on the timing light.

My buddy came over and helped with the timing and get the hood on.
Drove it for a bit, got dinner and back home.

I'll have to get some pics.
Sorry...been so focused on getting it back together.

Got the hi press line after a hard trek in the woods with friends. (I needed a break)
Got home and just wasn't motivated to git'er'dun.
It's just so hot/humid.
The plan is to git-2it in the early morning coolness.
Lord willing, it shant take long.
Funny, I've lost 5lbs last week...I guess that's what happens when one gets the rear in gear....lol

So, I guess I have a bit of a quandry...
What to do with the old parts? I replaced a few parts I didn't have to...but because they were 47 (assumed) years old, I saw no reason not to. I was in there and they were off the engine.
P/s pump. Alt. Starter. Fuel pump.
I hate to just throw them out....and dag-gum that starter is a tank.
I really don't need more "gems" stuffed under a shelf, in a corner somewhere.
I think some of this comes from my parents being raised during the depression. "Don't throw that out...you never know when you might need one."
I could set them out at the road...some "I kant pass a p1ss test" scrapper will take them to the scrapyard.
Maybe that's what I'll do, and get some donut $.
Decissions...decissions...

Replacement, alternators, starter, power steering pumps and especially fuel pumps don't have a very good reputation. Stick that stuff in a box somewhere you may need some of it.

Really..?
I wondered about the longevity of the new parts.
Space might be a tad sparce...(sparce space...ha, ha)...anywho, keeping the old parts is an option.
Honestly, I would rather buy a new starter, than try to horse the original back in...

So, the new p/s hi-press hose is in.
I had to "unbend" some bends, but eventually got it in.

Thanks to all who offered insights and advise.
I do appreciate all of it.

The biggest evaluation of any indevour is if you would do it again.
So, would I do it again?
Yes, I would.
But...I would pick a cooler week to do it in.
Seriously, the heat was the biggest energy suck.
High 80's & low 90's is rough on ol' farts...lol.

But that’s the reason you lost more weight than a Jenny Craig plan for the week. Sweating it out lol.
Sounds like you did this like an old pro.
Regarding keeping parts, yes reman stuff is spotty quality these days, but it’s kinda splitting hairs to say something 40 years old is either A original or B better to rebuild yourself. Personally I’d never swap out a non leaking original steering pump. But that’s me.
Otherwise, think of the kids….and quit rat holing stuff that is gonna get tossed in ______ years.
I believe that anyone who is really inclined to “save everything” has not had to deal with cleaning/clearing out their household or (more often) their older relatives/parents stuff. Because once you doo the latter, you should realize how much chit your kids are gonna have to deal with and basically pay to remove (garbage).
