NOT a real true believer in BBB......seems if you "buy" in you are accredited? Just depends on the particular BBB you are around?

I'm with you on that. Look at the number of complaints on the 3 vendors I put up, the 2 with the fewest complaints have a D rating and an F rating but they are not members. The one with the most complaints by a huge margin has an A rating.

actually given the amount of engines sold seems like minimal complaints. Then have to discount a few for causes outside of the engine like a rich carb and bad rings.

I bought engines for 15 years from a good friend that was a production rebuilder. 2 problems come to mind one his fault other one no. First one had a new cam ground wrong. Heel side of one lobe would double pump a lifter resulting in a valve held open only at RPM. Motor didn't have to come out but lots of work replacing a cam on a 460 Ford with AC. Second one was their fault. Someone attempted to remove an oil galley plug and didn't complete it. Oil everywhere from back of the block. We also bought from national rebuilders. I remember 2 of those we had to do over. The GM small block was in a van and had excessive piston noise.

Buy from whoever you trust and hope for the best.

We used to build customer carry in engines,and build engines just to have to sell out right,as well as what we built in house for customer cars. One of my coworkers,I cannot remember the exact circumstances but some one tried to claim we built an engine wrong,Dennis said we can build them bullet proof,we can't make them idiot proof.

Reason owner installed engines have a very limited warranty.

Unless the vehicle is equipped with an O2 sensor there's not many owner installers that would know where the fuel mix is. Rich engines will usually run decent enough as the rings are being washed out.

I took a chance on a used Sun 1115. Had a small issue with the emissions bench that I was able to fix. Only use it a couple times a year but worth the space it takes up.
