I was going to build a 8.1 for my IH ..
Bought one and got it home to the shop .

After big cubes, 496 budget build was what I had in mind .. Already was building up a Mark IV 454 and was close to having it ready to install ..

Came out of a 1988 motorhome with low miles on it ... But, it was a 2 bolt main and had Peanut Port heads ..
The 8100 Vortex having 4 bolt mains and Cathedral port heads seems like a better foundation to build ..

Or so it seemed ..
After adding up $$ what parts it would take to build ( None of the parts I bought for the Mark IV will work on the Gen VII motor ) I decided to build a stroker using the last year of the Mark IV blocks ( 1990 ) .. Found a nice set of untouched 781 large oval port heads too ..
With taking the stroke to 4.25" and going .080" oversize on the bore nets 500 cubes ..

So I have two motors that are sitting in the shop taking up room, the 8.1 and the 2 bolt main motorhome ..
Did change the heads on the motorhome motor to Gen VI vortex heart shaped chambers which bumps the compression up nearly a full point ..
Both of them are for sale ..

What accessory drive does the 8.8 use? Does the 8.1 stuff work, or is it all on it's own?

I have an 8.1 truck set up from the junkyard that lines up, most probably won't have accessory drives unless you happen to get one from a bus.

Part of this little oddball engine mission, is to gather as much data as possible for the community at large.

To that end, I got an Einstar Rockit 3D scanner to capture the intake, and entire engine for anyone who wants to design brackets, intakes, flanges, whatever.

Learning to use it last night, will definitely take some hours to get the hang of.

The big thing for AMD, would be to verify tools are where they're supposed to be, or where panels are warped or OOT in freestate, since gages all constrain.

For enthusiasts, just having the environment to model around things instead of iterating a million times, a lot cleaner.

For this, I just want to get the flanges and bolt patterns out into the universe to see what people come up with for accessory brackets, intakes, and exhaust manifolds.

I appreciate this build and definitely subscribed. While I am, hopefully, a few years away from needing a new engine for my '90 C30, I'm watching to see if this is an option down the road.

First scan, straight from the scan.

I have lots of work to do though, because I want to model one Holley High Ram style, that can use High Ram lids.

Are you familiar with Amos Garcia? He does a fair amount with brackets etc for the 8.1, probably interested in any scans you get. Not sure the best place to get him, I see stuff on FB groups for the 8.1 a fair amount.

He certainly does. He's not offering to share, and I'm not asking. I'm just proceeding on my own, not a big deal.
