A good article on oil type choices for rigs.

For example:

(1) Engines were having common bearing failure issues. The oil recommendations were all over the board (e.g., 0-12, 0-20, THEN 0-40 to stop the failures).

(2) Info on why some cars call for surprisingly low viscosity, which is to meet EPA calls for higher gas mileage, but at the cost of bearing life.

Here's another interesting page. It compares Amsoil, Purple, Walmart brand and a Napa version. The winner is surprising.
