A good article on oil type choices for rigs.

For example:

(1) Engines were having common bearing failure issues. The oil recommendations were all over the board (e.g., 0-12, 0-20, THEN 0-40 to stop the failures).

(2) Info on why some cars call for surprisingly low viscosity, which is to meet EPA calls for higher gas mileage, but at the cost of bearing life.

Here's another interesting page. It compares Amsoil, Purple, Walmart brand and a Napa version. The winner is surprising.

There's also a video, to save you time, that shows amazon oil is almost as good as Amsoil. Google is your friend. Next post will be to see actual lab testing and not some hill billy or youtube $ wanna be.

Link below, in the search area type the oil you want to know about. It's a science and may require some time to figure out what it all means. Then compare a few to expensive brands and form your own opinion.

my choice of comparisons: Amsoil, amazon, mobil 1. The last 2 are bang for buck in the order listed that I've found using the data shown between the 3.

Nerd Alert: What I did was open a seperate window in firefox for Amsoil, then Amazon, then Mobil1. Resize each of those windows so I could put them side by side and compare all 3 numbers at the same time.
