Not much room with my exhaust/headers for a mechanical clutch linkage...

How difficult is adapting the mech clutch to a juice unit. I thought I’ve seen premade conversion kits for it.

I’ll call advance adapters in the morning to see what pedal setups they have. I’m more motivated today to do the manual swap today, as the tranny shop quoted me $2300 to rebuild my th400 to a standard level. Seems quite high to me...
a th400 wouldnt be that great for a cummins i dont think. you need more gears to keep your revs lower. so eitherr drive 55 everywhere or have more gears + proper ratios for each speed range

i have a feeling a cummins could cruise 70 on decent tires at a very low rpm if ypu did it right, even loaded

A th400 or any GM auto prior to an Allison would die a quick death behind a Cummins. Too much torque early on at low rpms. Tranny guys have all said no way to the th400 and 4l80 and their ‘hd’ variants.

Nope, that one is manual as well. That long rod is actually the rod that connects the pedal to the z-bar.
Gotcha, makes sense. I’ll keep my eyes open. Might just have to build a pedal/bracket To make it right. I’m seeing a gap in the market I might be able to fill.

What’s the expert consensus on pilot bearings vs pilot bushings for long term reliability in a basic setup like mine?

What shop was that? Monroe in Newcastle did mine for $2156 about 3 years. That included a new flex plate, torque converter, shift kit, numerous other parts with 2 U-joints. It was another $435 to R&R the transfer case.

Foothill Transmission. That included a torque converter. They won’t warranty the trans without installing a new one.

I’ll ask Monroe what they’d want to rebuild my transfer case in the morning.

I left a message with Monroe this morning, but didn’t get a call back...

question about the bell housing. Advance Adapters is telling me I need their bell housing to mate my nv4500. I asked if it was because the GM trucks that had this trans from the factory were driver side drop TC with the clutch linkage on the passenger side? They said yes...

Then I read on Pirate about guys using factory bell housings in square bodies and even sm465 bellhousings to mate the nv4500 to their gen 1 sbc/bbc.

Who’s right? Does the factory bell housing put the clutch linkage on the passenger side?

maybe there’s a difference from later internal slave vs the early external slave. From these pictures, it looks like the later one has linkage provisions on the driver side, but the earlier (92-95) does not...

The earlier external slave style has the slave mounted on the passenger side. You probably need 4+" lift to clear it. The later style with internal slave has the hydraulic line going in from the driver's side. There's also a bleeder line that sticks out. That's what the notch in the bellhousing is for.
