Looks like a gopro pic, they have a fisheye effect on the photo, kinda like a panoramic shot
0.5x on the phone, creates a similar fisheye effect to many action cameras with a wide FOV.

Circling back a while to this discovery:
Then discovered the input shaft retainer is cracked in numerous places.

Luckily, and perhaps ironically, this is available, but the seal that goes into it isn’t (or a direct fit/application specific one isn’t).

We weren’t exactly looking for an answer on how this happened, but I think we figured it out.

My buddy had bought a pto shear bolt yoke for the brush hog, and test fit it on the pto shaft, in doing so, he discovered about a 1/2” of in and out play on the pto shaft.

So the suspicion is that at some point in time, the pto shaft got shoved into the transmission and popped a retainer clip out (unlikely) or broke the bearing retainer (more likely) allow it to thrust forward and thus push into the input shaft retainer, cracking it.

Hooray, another thing to do…

HAH! Thank you! I have been trying to replicate and figure out how and the heck I created a fisheye effect in one of my photos of the 81. I was lying on the ground trying to snap a pic of newly installed shocks, I inadvertently touched the screen with my finger, the screen changed and the resulting pic was like that from a gopro. Now I need to try it again on an under vehicle or side vehicle shot.

Not a ton to report, on the 2000 pulled the pto shaft and indeed the cast retainer and snap ring were broken, new PTO shaft/bearing/retainer has arrived. Still fiddling with the generator. It works fine as a motor, my guess is the (new) regulator needs adjustment or something.

On the 8N I rebuilt the carburetor Monday when I was off work, now it doesn’t flood at idle and will idle down to the 400 ish rpm idle it is supposed to be at.

I shared this photo in the new tools thread, but got this boom pole for free. A nice addition I think.

Got the new PTO shaft/retainer installed. Had to take off and clearance the mount for the drawbar/chains (because of course), then find out that while 3 of the 4 are still 7/16-14, the top right has been tapped 1/2-20, as a fix for some bad threads I'm sure. Literally everything on this is wrong, doesn't fit, or doesn't work as is...

And got the decals installed on the hood

And played around with the generator some more. My best guess is the generator is more or less fine, but the regulator(s) have been the issue, reading online it seems that the quality/lifespan/function of new regulators is less than stellar. I have one thing I'd like to try for my own curiosity, but we decided to go to an alternator and be done. Will save the generator parts and keep it to where it could be reverted with out issue later for whatever reason if desired.

Denso mini alternator mounted on the factory bracket and it works. Have the proper plug coming and some slightly shorter belts to be in range of the top bracket without my custom extension.

Wired up with the charge indicator light and everything working.

What's the application to find that alternator? I don't have one in front of me, but looks similar to the ones on our Ventracs with the new fuel injected Kubota.

The GM 10SI on mine seems to have a failing regulator recently. But I'm not going to swap it with any alternator that requires a different belt, since I'd have to remove the front hydraulic pump and shaft to change it. I don't have as much ambition as you, lol.

@bucket I don’t have a specific application for it, but yes, they are used (or some variation) on lots of smaller tractors and OPE these days. I think Shane just ordered one off of Amazon searching Denso mini 3 wire alternator.

I can measure, but I think the pulley size is about the same between the Denso and a 10/12si.

ETA, here is a link to it, Toyota and Kubota application they say.
