Hey folks,

Recently picked up a 1980 GMC 1500. Drove it home (4 hours) and no issues. Since then I noticed that at night my headlights are flickering. The lights seem nice and bright until I start driving, then they fade a bit and flicker. In addition to all of that my dash lights seen super dull and nearly impossible to see. Seems like there's a draw or something that is straining the system. Any ideas on where to start?

Disconnect your battery, clean the terminals and connectors, go to the starter and do the same thing. Then go to the junction block on the firewall and repeat. Check your grounds EVERYWHERE cleaning as you go.
Reconnect the battery and see if the problem still exists. If it does then you likely have an alternator issue.

If you have a digital voltmeter, put it on the AC scale. Running at idle on battery posts, if AC is near .100 V rectifier is bad, needs alt.
