While sitting at a light to turn left or right, if I get into it hard (under 4k rpm's) it will slip out of gear at times and just zing until I let off the gas and then go into 2nd gear.

The other day, getting onto the interstate, I had to get onto it a bit more than just the standard "kick down" and it went into first and zinged, let off and it went into 2nd.....but never shifted into 3rd until I let off the throttle fully. I've never had this engine at 5k rpms until then.

I'm guessing I've got 80k miles on it, but the fluid has been changed multiple times due to engine swaps.....fluid is purdy pink, but have never changed the filter. Most recent fluid change was due to a rubber hose popping off and running it close to dry in half a mile (last year). This issue was happening before that so that isn't the cause.

It only does it when I'm turning and taking off (up to temp or not).

[EDIT] forgot to mention, stock radiator and B&M cooler next to passenger headlight. Also, I got the engine/trans at ~120k miles and have the 80k mentioned above on top of that. But it does have a stamp on it and appears to have been rebuilt.

Ideas?

Thanks In Advance

looks like I might be suckin air in at the diptstick tube seal. It's wobbly at the top (tube mount not secured to block) so I know the seal isn't the greatest at the trans. I'll get a wix filter for the trans tomorrow and change it this weekend and go from there.

Gotta be something in the valve body. I'm no transmission guy. How did it drive after the incident?

The only other thing would be shifter adjustment, and motor and transmission mount condition. When pulling hard on a corner it's torquing just enough to mess with the shifter?

I'll check all mounts, but it's done it threw 3 engine swaps. I am working through some "popping" on the front end, but thats only during pulling out of the driveway. I'll be checking all rivets/bolts on the front for any "shifts". but I don't think that would cause the flare.

With the filter change i may see an "ohshit" image and go from there. The trans is still good except for this specific issue.....like anyone...gonna run it until it needs a rebuild.

Future reference, I found found out that there are vendors that will rebuild/exchange valve bodies. I haven't done the cost comparison to a full rebuildlocally and the valve body only.

and to add, all 3 swaps had the proper gap between flexplate and TC. Learned that lesson before when it had a 350/700r4....don't tell my wife about that lesson lol.

I’m sorry, but I get lost trying to follow the actual typed wording with all the “extra” wording on your posts…
