So I started this 1981 C10 short bed fleet side, tons of em out there, over 2 years ago and finally got all the mechanical stuff under control. Of course I got robbed a couple of times along the way but at 8g into it, including purchase price, I don't think it's all bad. I had plenty of help along the way, some I got right here so thanks for the great information site!
Here's where I'm at now, new 350, 4 bolt main engine, new radiator, new fuel slayer carb, new water pump, new power steering pump, new front end (all parts replaced, rust remediation, por15 coated), rebuilt steering gear box (did it myself from several information sources), remanufactured transmission, new universal joints, new shocks, new tires, new bearings front and rear, new rear axles, new brakes, new wheel cylinders, new printed circuit for the gauges, rebuilt speedometer with trip gauge, new glove box, new gear selector indicator, LED tail lights, LED gauge lights, new head lights, new head light adjusters, new vent windows, and new marker lights.
So now I'm just saving up money to get to the next part, new glass, paint, interior, AC, etc. Might be done by the end of next year, God willing. One thing I've yet to track down is a new original style grille or rechroming the original grille, but that might just have to change depending on what's available. Anyway that's where I'm at, it's been an adventure so far mostly because I had to figure most of it out, can't seem to find anyone what wants to work on the truck and the few that I did find about half of them ripped me off. Upward and onward!!
