1987 V10 stalling when gets to temp, cutting out Code 34?

my 1987 1/2 ton Chevy is stalling our after a few miles. Won't restart until I let it set and cool down. Its jerked a couple times going down the road, but not stalled.

I plug in a code reader and get a code 34 (see attached pic)

MAF (mass air flow sensor)
MAP (Manifold absolute pressure)
Pressure sensor unit

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

How old/dirty is your air filter? Then we can go from there.

How old is the coolant temp sensor on the intake?

Good question, I just bought the truck, new crate motor, Ill look at sensor

Good question, I just bought the truck, new crate motor, Ill look at sensor


I only ask because its possible the code 34 is a result of the issue, not the cause.
The CTS (has mutiple wires, top of intake) has alot of say in fueling for the motor....

You said engine temp rises and then it wont run anymore until it cools down. Once the motor heats up on a normally operating tbi engine, it eventually trims fuel back once it reaches the ECMs set "ideal" temperature.


Whats the exhaust smell like when it reaches temp?

I'd get into the service manuals in the reference section. the emissions and drivability manual is where I would start.
