So I am trying to restore this old truck as best I can on limited funds, but I wanted to know if the original speaker wouldve been underneath the dash in the middle? Were there other speaker location options or just the dashboard one? Thanks.

My 85 has 3 inch speakers in the top of the dash in each corner. It also has a bracket for a 4x10 in the center of the dash. I assume they came with one or the other.

Base was the middle one. Next option was in the corners, and then in the cab corners 4x10 speakers also an option

As mentioned the front came with either a pair of 3" speakers or a 4x10 in the center. If you have a pair of speakers up front check out this post. https://www.gmsquarebody.com/threads/the-grocery-getter.19698/#post-363785

I got a set of cheapy 3.5" speakers and mounted them to the factory bracket. A couple of spade connectors to mate the new speakers to the oem harness and you're done. I dont remember what I paid for them but it was under $30, for sure. I used the wiring that came with the speakers and some spade connectors I have in my parts bin.

Not sure if the dash pads are different or if all 3 hole are perforated.

Dash pads have holes in all places, just speaker placement was different depending on the trim

He's got a 73-80 truck. I don't recall those coming with any other speakers on the dash except for the center 4x10.

Right. There were some of the special edition GMC's with kick panel speakers, and then the door panel speakers that were an option for the '80 models. But no outboard dash speakers.
