Pulled it out of winter storage and freshened up the paint. Runs very well with the new 350 crate engine. That project I did last winter.

Spent the whole weekend with my son on his c10 restoring the exhaust and changing valve cover gaskets. It would have not been possible without a torch to heat and soak hardware with pb and reheat etc. I would have been searching for parts otherwise. it was fun doing the same thing to his truck that I had to do to mine. Only difference was that I put on long tube headers lol.

The Bilsteins are great- took a loop around town.

Got home and had a few minutes so upon Steve Dulcich’s suggestion, I picked up some of this Dawn stuff and started cleaning the M/T valve covers. This stuff is awesome! It actually was working better than brake cleaner since it hangs around instead of evaporating.

I hit the raw aluminum parts with a rubber eraser wheel, then some fine grit sandpaper, being mindful to only go in one direction. They weren’t in perfect shape, so now they’ll have a mild brushed aluminum look.

Dang!! Those came out killer!
Yeah, not too bad. Looks like they were powder coated from the factory with a rough texture- I’m just going to rough them up a bit with some sandpaper and hit them with some satin. The bigger challenge will be making baffles for them since the ones they made for them are unobtainium. Heading to the hardware store shortly to see what screws the mounts take and to pick up a piece of sheet metal to fabricate my own.

This is close to the original paint.

The 79 and 76 got the window bars and visible vent window frame painted.

Tip #42 on how to make a shitbox respectable lol. The 79 is not a shitbox though, that's for preservation.

I'm envious. All my window rubber died in the California sun years ago. I forget if that's on the punchlist or not...
The regular window felt is cheap and easily replaced, all of mine have been junk. The vent windows have proven to be a pain. Most of my vent window seals are in one piece but have begun deteriorating, like a crack at the edge or some chunking off the window edges. But they all still seal great. And until they don't, they stay there! lol

Around here if they sat outside their whole life they're usually gone, sometimes not. The 79 has 430,000 but has had the pleasure of off days in the garage and almost every night in the garage since almost new.

Just have to clean the decades of mud and dirt buildup, which usually takes acetone or carb cleaner on a rag. Then be very careful to not spread it all over the paint, essentially wiping a layer of rubber of too lol, the rag ends up black. That's tip #32 lol.
