Just got the frame back from being powder coated on my 73 K20 and starting to install the 4" ORD lift this week. Very happy with the quality of the ORD products. Also got the bottom of the cab Rhino lined. Finally getting it going after sitting in storage for 17 years.

The underside of yours looks better than the topside of mine!!
It surely didnt before this year. The body was six different colors with every panel dented somewhere. I had to get a different bed, fenders, doors and hood and have some body work done on the cab. Lol
Been saving and dreaming for a long time to get this done.

I don't claim to be even a passble painter by any means.

What? Did you expect me to say BUT or something?

This is about the 3rd or 4th time painting it.

(If I ever restore it, that will be a pain in the ass to get off)

I sanded it down with some 320, (Bodywork? Who gives a ****?) I loaded my own custom blended color into the paint gun.

6 parts Rustoleum Enamel, 1 part Fiberglass Resin, 2 parts Boiled Linseed Oil, 4 parts gasoline (or acetone), and a few drops of fiberglass hardener.

(Like I actaually measured stuff)

I just want it looking shiny (People seem to like the dents). The girls at my high school seem to find the truck very sexy. In front of all of the Mercedes and BMWs in the parking lot, my truck seems to attract the most female attention.

I've had a lot of free time since my girlfriend dumped me.

it was cold out in the barn but i had new turn signal sockets from rockauto.

my right front signal didn't work when the headlights were on.
turning the headlights on also activated the right indicator bulb in the dash.

i found 4 of those blue plastic clip on splicer devices going everywhere.

i pulled those off (there was even a scab wire from the left marked over to the right marker).

pulling the socket out revealed that the ground 'flex tab' inside the socket was gone an in its place was aluminum foil.

new sockets on both sides, soldered and heat shrunk.

blinky, blinky, no error indicator in dash.
sweet!

What is the thought process behind putting the fiberglass resin and linseed oil in?

Linseed oil makes the color richer, the resin and hardener makes it get super hard and durable.

So if it's durable why have you had to paint it 4x? I know you just got a new door but I would think just Rust-Oleum would last that long, esp since I realized your only in high school, so it's not like that's painted 4x in 15 years.

Not picking on you, like the other guy said just the first I have heard anyone say that. Have you just tried to add hardener to it one of those times...like paint hardener?

Talked to the transmission doc today.

He has it back together, but still needs to do the road test tweaks and confirm the TCC is working.

Torque converter was replaced, modulator, seals, clutch plates, yada yada yada .

There was a thick layer of sludge in the pan, and he said that it was basically time so I guess I caught her on the front side of the curve.

Makes me feel better about spending the money.:p

I do highway it, so the thought of a breakdown on the side of the road is less than fun.

I also asked him if he wanted me to pay for what he had done so far - Nah.

Maybe this week if I can get there, or next Saturday if I can't during the week.

These are some reasons why:
(I swear, there isn't a straight panel on the truck)

I've also have had a lot of trial and error over the years trying to paint it, so it took me a while to come up with this.
