Is anyone having any luck buying a vehicle from Craigslist/Facebook Marketplace right now?

I’ve had pretty good success buying on marketplace, Craigslist is pretty much dead around here (the auto section is mostly buy here, pay here car lots/curbstoners, tools section is like 4 main posters relisting the same stuff for years), but I did get a 99 Ram 2500 for parts last year for a whopping $400. Ran and drove 60 miles back to the shop, AC even worked.

With marketplace, since the information is right there I’ll scan over their profile and other listings they might have to get a feel for them, also I’ll drop the name into google to make sure they aren’t public enemy #1 or something.

I’ve had a couple of sellers flake on me, but thankfully before I left to meet them. Oh well.

Have dealt with a lot more flakes on the selling side however.

I am not on Facebook for a lot of reasons. Like I said you need to be vigilant. Here is an example, If "Miss Jenny" is selling her dead grandfathers's HO trains and she say's 'I don't know if this engine runs' then she is okay, and buy accordingly. If "Mr. HO" has an engine for sale and says 'I don't know if it runs' this means he spent at least an hour fussing with it and could not make move.

Pulling this thread of mine back up after another frustrating Marketplace experience. Car popped up for sale on our local Marketplace last evening. Immediately messaged the seller. Had a quick conversation and set a time for 4:00 today to meet. So, I hooked up my new to me trailer, got money ready, and ready to head out for our 4:00 time. Sent another message to the seller telling him that I'm ready.....Crickets. Half hour later, he replies back telling me that he just sold it (money down and picking it up Saturday).

Not sure why people have no common courtesy anymore. But, this is getting absolutely frustrating.

A couple weeks ago, my son found a Camaro he wanted on marketplace. We were hesitant to go buy it, after our last experience with a D-bag that was "selling" a Firebird on marketplace.

But anyway, we went with the trailer to go look at it and hopefully buy it. The car was 100% exactly as described and the seller was super nice. We happily paid the guy his asking price and he was super thankful that we actually read the description and knew what we were coming to buy. It was a fantastic experience for all of us.

It's nice to know that there's at least some amount of decent sellers out there.

I buy and sell very occasionally on FB MP and always check the profile as much as possible.
Just sold a beautiful Martin guitar on MP last week, it went super easy.

Monochromatic used to be trendy.

I wish I could find pictures online, but no luck. I tried to find that 90's Chevy that someone had sprayed EVERYTHING except the glass in bright red. Even the entire interior, lol.

Typical jackass trying to sell their rust bucket based on high end restoration prices. He wanted like 4000 for a pretty well rusted truck, paint isn't any good, I'm sure mechanicals were on par with the looks. Offered like $600 I think. Was a while ago.

It seem like the good deals are out there you just have to be ready to react quickly with cash.
My best success is phone calls. I can quickly get the whole story about the vehicle then determine if I want to look at the truck. If I don't get call backs, texts, emails its a clear message that is not a viable deal. I try not to fall in love with the pic in ad and just play the numbers game.
Kind of like a bus there will be another one around the corner to get on!

"Restoring" 10 year old cars in the 80's

But I'm dead serious it was no more than $1000 dollar truck. Only thing it had going for it was having four wheels and the look resembling a squarebody... or what was left

Another guy wanted $2000 for a 70's c10 with a front fender smashed in and hood ruined and the other fender got some too. Paint was rough, bumpers junk, pretty straight overall but a few good sized dents and scratches. Interior rough, bad tires, been sitting. He was at least nice about my offer.

That's something that has died or nearly died off, is haggling. You make an offer and you literally just get "NOPE" , like okay... cool.... I don't even try to talk to them again. Sad times.
