wished I could find a free frame or cab, or somebody donate one.

I want a squarebody bad, ever since we had to scrap the 76 we had, wife won't let me trade the old man, or another person my 88k1500 for one, she likes it I guess, but I preffer the squarebody. I have pretty much no money, but would love to strip one down to bare frame and start, never got the chance to but now that's all I want to do. Take it to bare frame, clean and paint everything, replace basically everything, or at least what I can and find good used for the rest. I'd be happy to find a frame long or short, and cut it down to short if I had to, and find a cab, wouldn't matter if it had rust or not I'd just cut the junk out and replace it. Then I'd do a 73-80 round headlight front clip, and stick shift, find me a motor and build, all that good stuff. I already got a stick shift trans, and an auto, DS, also could get a 350 block for basically free, and who knows what else. I know it'd be a long term deal but who cares man I'd love to just have one and get back into it. I do all the work on my truck, wife's car, dad's truck and BIL's car, and love to do it, just wished I had me a square. Nobody around here has anything, if they do it's a junk long bed they want a fortune for, and again I got like no money really, so it don't help. I can't save money for ****, it always gets spent. I can do a little here and there though, just can't hardly do like a hundred or more at a time. Even if I had to stick it in storage somewhere lol until I did get more cash or money.

eehh maybe one of these days lol.

So you definately want a K to start with and not a C? I'll keep my eyes peeled.

no I wouldn't mind a k or a c, I want to end up with a 2wd short bed or I'd settle for a 4x4, but would rather a 2wd. I'm in WV lol. That's why I said I aint too picky, I'd rather it be a 2wd short bed frame, but would settle for a long bed and/or 4x4 frame. Same for cab, would be good to have a 73-80 cab but I could make the 81-87 work too whether it's 2wd or 4x4 cab doesn't matter.

I keep check on the local CL all the time for free stuff or parts, even the cars/trucks section.

We need to get the Shagmeister to create one! I think we've mentioned it before but he's a busy man! :)

Ok new question, and do you think maybe I should start a new thread to get more answers on this question....

If I buy a cab, or find one free hopefully, probably no title, same for a frame maybe from another truck, could I get something like that legal once done? Like could they do a search on the cab vin and clear it for me or maybe issue a new vin?

I've heard of people getting a title to a vehicle even, though, they didn't get one from the original sale. The main thing you need is a bill of sale and I think a title can be had after some paper work and stuff like that. I'd do some research and maybe go down to the DMV and ask them what that process might be. Do you have a lead on a free cab somewhere? I think that'd be really hard to come by!

nope not yet.

I just don't see much point in it if I can't find one with a title IF I can't get it legal not having a title. Now if I can do paper work and crap that's fine. Just trying to figure out what I can do before I get started.

Yeah, there's a process you can go through in order to get a clean title for a vehicle (in this case cab or frame) if it's been lost at some point over the years. For Missouri, it's just a matter of filling out a few forms, sending them off to Jeff City and then after they're done with what they got to do they send you a clean title. I don't know if it comes back as a "rebuild" title or not but it's a title nonetheless.

I could care less if it was reconstructed or whatever, my 88 is a reconstructed title. Getting a title period is all I worried about, being maybe a different cab and frame. I wanted to find out before I track down a cab and frame. I know of a junkyard close with plenty of 73-87's but I bet it'd cost most to buy from them then it would to find a junk truck, buy it and fix it. The guy wanted 350 for a complete rearend, I could only imagine the price of a frame or cab from him, probably a grand for both, I could buy a whole truck for less. I just don't have $500 or so to buy one. I could do good to come up with a hundred.

My '87 is titled/registered as a 2000 ASV...(AssembledVehicle)..It has an older frame...'85 cab..'86 motor/tranny..etc. The guy who originally had the truck, put it together in 2000..had it inspected by the Highway Patrol..and then the state gave it an "Assigned Identification Number" and attached a plate in the drivers door jamb. I keep all original inspection papers etc. in the glovebox and have had 0 problems with it......The only thing that confuses me is how they still considered it to be an '87 when none of the original parts of the '87 truck are in existance........

maybe he had an 87 title? for the old cab, or maybe it was because it's the last year of that body style? I'd have no problems with that if they could do it for me here. Mine would be like a 2020 vehicle LOL. It'd take me that long to get the parts and build it not haveing cash to back me up.

Does that mean you have to pass emissions stuff with it as if it's a 2000 or do they still consider it an 87 when they do emissions tests?

The only thing left on mine from the original 77 truck is the cab, frame, tranny and rear end. At some point, the tranny and rear end will go to but that's in the future at some point.
