I believe I've got enough 'bugs' out of mine to trust taking it for a 60 mile run tomorrow. Wish me luck.
its invigorating. I still watch the gauges like a hawk and look underneath constantly. I think my nervous energy will subside soon.

good luck!

It's a great feeling. That old girl will get you there and back no problem.

Signed up for an autocross event with my 76. Will try to get video of it in action. Suspension mods consist of a set of Monroe shocks put on 3 years ago. Might be a reason I'm the only truck singed up for the event...

This rain showed me that my leak in the floor isn't fixed. I think I have an odd ball hole under the sun visor that's letting water down to the kick panel corner. Bought some silicone to put on visor.

Well . . .

Everything went great on the way to work!

After a mile out of work . . . thud.

Had it towed to a shop. Will have them drop the tank, flush, seal or replace it, new sock and sender and maybe a new line.
This is the only thing fuel related I have not done.

Weird. 30 miles and ran like a sewing machine. Afternoon, pooh!

Will let you know what happens in the next exciting episode.

Thought I heard a slight vibration under engine load. Guess I needed to loctite my collector bolts. Did that and checked torque on other stuff.

Did a quick and very dirty paint job on my toolbox to see how it would look. Just can’t make up my mind, toolbox, bed rails or nothing. Also removed my fog lights and began the process of mounting some backup lights under the rear bumper. Also tightened up my upper shock mounts again. I think the hole has been wallowed out and now I can’t get them to stay tight. I may have to weld a washer on each side so I can have a round mounting hole again.

IMHO, ....

My truck has had a cross-bed toolbox since almost day one. When it gets refurbed the toolbox goes. Aside from the fact that even on a longbed it makes the bed look short, it's a massive cr@p collector. I could probably lighten the truck by 200 lbs by getting rid of extraneous junk I burn fuel to carry around in that box.

Rails vs nothing... I have a weakness for the classics, so both would be okay. But there's a lot to be said for bone stock. Quick story. When we bought the pickup we were looking to do all kinds of customizing to make it stand out. Most of what we did was cosmetic, but some was more involved. In the short and long run, it turned out the truck stood out on it's own. And it still does. Rust and all. You have a good looking truck. Don't overthink it.
