I reinstalled my cab length running boards. Just have to cut some square tubing for reinforcement. I have a beat up pair of long boards that I'm going to attempt to make a small set from the front of the bed to the rear wheels.

Not too long ago, my buddy finally got his '89 3500 into the shop to yank the dead 6.2 diesel. Next thing you know, it looked like this:

Amazingly, zero rust and the cab bolts all came right out.

I am super jealous of the zero rust... My rear cab bolts looked brand new though.

Version 2 of the 4wd bushing is here, there wasn't enough compression on the detent spring so with the 4wd lever, it would pop out without hardly bumping it. Now the switch is actuated by a screw that rides inside the spring and only works the switch. I used a screw so you didn't have to worry about dropping it as it is all basically self contained once the switch is on the bushing. The way it is designed now, it should have the same pressure on the detent ball as it did with the old caps that were on mine.

My buddy is going to machine me 1 to test and then I will have some to sell. It seems to work really well with the 3d printed one, I just don't trust the strength.

My rear cab bolts came out no problem. The fronts both fought me, the driver's side looked good even though it fought but the pass side one is very crusty

They are easy when the floor is rotted away…

All 4 came out on the 79. Yes I had to use a pipe wrench in the front nuts, up they all came apart.

The trick I’ve seen for bolt removal in caged nuts is to apply a constant torque to them, instead of fast hitting impacts. I’ve seen people modify electric pipe threaders for the job. Also the use of an inductive heater on the bolt head to let heat creep to the threads to help release the loctite.

It's funny you mention that, Saturday night after I was all done, I saw a video on IG with someone using a HF electric pipe threader to get them out. My ICON 1/2 drive ling ratchet I got for xmas came in handy for that

The last couple of weeks I felt like Forest Gump when he started running; Initially his goal was to run to the end of the driveway or maybe county, but he ended up going all the way across the country.

My initial goal was to re-do the rear brakes. Then when waiting for new brake shoes I figured why not check the front pads. Broke off a wheel stud so had to pull the rotor and replace the broken stud. While removing the rotor noticed a crack in the frame at the steering gear, so pulled the inner fender and steering gear, bought the reinforcement plates and welded that all up. With the inner fender out I figured this was a good time to straighten out the power steering pump bracket. While I’m doing that why not replace all three drive belts? Done.

Now it’s time to cruise! Took it to town and then took some back roads home. So far no leaks and everything works fine. It might be my imagination but the steering feels different, more solid, less play? Anyway it drives and steers nice.

And @idahovette all mag based lights are present and accounted for. :D

That's literally every project for me...starts off as a simple task and then "while I'm here" kicks in and the pic I posted above is what happens :33:
Yep. Or you replace/restore one part and now the others look like crap so you end up replacing/restoring more parts.
