Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha I love getting old. Apparently, my eyesight isn't what it used to be. Yes, it ends up my leak was a second nylon gasket in the filter housing. I had one on the filter housing but didn't see another one hiding in the well. FFS, I swore I looked in there before I put a new filter in. So, it ends up the pop sound I heard was the extra gasket letting out its death wail. At least it wasn't the housing going cracked on me.
Ricko 1966 gave us the info for the repair bung and I went to their site looking for a phone number, but all they offered was an email address. I never have gotten a response, must be the universe looking out for my silly a$$. So, that's another one off the list. Ends up the no swirl problem is the neutral safety switch deciding to exit the chat. Jumped it and it swirled right over, and 10 seconds later the float bowl filled and I finally got to take that LONG anticipated test drive to see if the damned thing is going to be something I'm going to put effort into.
The answer is YES! Now I don't think I got out of second gear due to the short side street I took for a cop free test (expired tags), but the next step will be to put the 14ff on stands and see if the th400 will shift all three gears. Brakes are high on the list next, the left front caliper is the only front working and I have a kit to see if I can bring the right one back. Hoses, master and whatever I find out back will be on the list along with most likely new bearings and seals all the way around.
It's hard to express how much stress over this project was lifted off my mind this afternoon just being able to go down the side street a quarter mile down and back. I know, simple pleasures for simple minds. But when you live on nearly nothing every month, you learn to appreciate the small victories. A perfect and fitting cap for a Friday out on the lower Columbia River delta at the radio ranch.
