Well gave it alot of thought and decided to do the vortec swap. Went to the local u-pull-it found a 99' 3500 and got the heads off. The stamping is 906. Gonna slap em on my 400 sbc. Cant wait.

Have them checked for cracks. Vortecs are bad about cracking. Went thru 3 sets before I gave up.
Watch your lift anything above 450 - 470 and its a waste

And if I remember right I think you need to have "steam holes" machined into those heads for your 400. Maybe someone else can add some detail.

I got a machine shop close by that is going to do it and the motor for around 250, that includes boring if needed. But they were only 35 a head at the u-pull-it here so if they are cracked no biggie.

And I will need steam holes drilled in them. Anything other than a stock 400 head you will need to get them done.

Im also gonna have the hardened exhaust seats removed while hes got them apart for alil potring and better flow.

I've been thinking of doing this to mine. But I have a 454 L19 and don't know what heads I would need. I've seen some posted on CL.
