Th350 questions

Build code for my 84 k10 scottsdale says MX0 4spd/od. Any ways I looked all over while under the truck. No tag code but I know it's a th350 because of the pan shape. The wiring hardness just hangs up unused, after searching for details on the tranny. I've come to find out there were 2 models, the hydramatic and then the electronic lock up version.

My question is: when shifting into OD does it actually OD or is it just D ?

It shifts in D but seems like it shifts around close to 40mhp ( I'll have to put the gps in the truck to find the exact mph) I think it's off a few. Not ready to drive it fast yet till I fix the steering issues.


I'll admit I'm new the Chevy's.

a turbo 350 does not have OD on the selector. You either have the basic turbo 350 or the lock up turbo 350. The Lockup works when the trans is in D. You should see somewhere on the drivers side of the trans where the plug in goes if it is electronic if you see no where for it to go I would assume its a regular turbo 350.

Just wondering, after I read some details on it. I went to check for the plug in couldn't feel anything. My selector has P-R-N-OD-D-2-1 , drives in OD but doesn't seem to shift or I haven't gotten it fast enough, that I just don't notice it. in D it shifts some where between 35-40mph like I said above.

Sounds like something is mix matched, maybe the column was swapped. Did they offer overdrive in '83 anybody? When you shift into "D" it may really be in 2nd. Try shifting to 1rst gear and see if it manually shifts back up on each gear or if it will even physically shift into 1rst at all.

Anyways next thing I gotta do is figure out the np203 case issue. From what members here and other places have said shown. 2h4h N 4l is wrong and is for a np205. So I guess some time I"ll try readjusting the linkage.

You have the selector for a 700r4. When you put it on OD, you are actually in D for the TH350. That would be 3rd gear which is all a TH350 has. Your truck probably came with an NP208. The shift pattern indicates that, but who knows what tcase you actually have after the swap.

Tcase tag says 203. I know they swapped out the 305 for a 350, tranny's been swapped because nothing for the wiring hardness hooks up.

But you still have the 208 shifter. Not sure how its hooked up below.

I've been driving around with the tcase shifter forward. Thinking that was the right position, since every other 4x4 I've had was the same. Just all the conflicting answers are confusing, not knowing what the PO did, didn't do.

Here's a pic of what the tc shifter looks like. minus the tranny gear shifter though.

if you have manual hubs(unlocked) you will have to run in high lock
If you have Slugs (locked all the time) you should be in high
You can run your manuals in high if the case has a part time kit in it

it drives with them unlocked, it's done that from the day I bought it. It's the tc shifter and linkage that's giving me the problem. that and the fact it's a pita to tell what gear I'm in w.o having to try and feel the tranny go into gear. Some times I have to cut the truck off and find N. Just to check what position the tc is in.

Any ways I pulled off the tc shifter cover. The one in the pic is what cover was installed by the PO.

what the shift slot looks like under it, There was no alignment hole, just a bracket to the tc with threaded rod and sliding block. With 2 nuts, a cotter pin to hold it onto the shifter which is just a long straight bracket. I raised the bar up as far as it would go which allowed me to shift to the left *what's shown in the pic* that's as far as it would go.

The problem is I can't go any further. I can go all the way down towards the seat and then up and over (which seems to be another gear guess 2l) and that's it. right now it's in 2wd ( only one wheel the passenger side rear was spinning)

I guess the shifter is wrong, or the threaded rod is to short. If the nuts and slider are backed off. It will only shift 2 times from the seat if that.

How does the ORD double stick work ? what I mean is how does it mount the the tc and allow use of selecting 2,4 then h/l ?
