Anyone tried one? I’m looking for a header back system for my 81 long bed. I’m already anticipating some fabrication work due to the 455 Olds swap. Not likely to find a true bolt on system for that!!

I’m considering this one: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/hok-16526hkr

Or this:

I wanted a 2.5 inch, but for whatever reason that extra 1/4 inch results in the price tripling.

I’m curious what others have used, and if you’re happy. I’m also curious what if any to stay away from.

I've used the Hooker exhaust and the Dynomax exhaust kit as well. I'd buy the Hooker exhaust again for sure. But not the Dynomax. The Hooker exhaust fit better and utilized mandrel bends.

I used the Thrush 2.25 kit on my 77 K10, I needed to add a short extension behind the muffler to both sides for it to fit right over the rear axle. Also the passenger side intermediate pipe didn't clear the transfer case crossmember. Had to modify that too. Otherwise straight forward, and it came with mufflers and the price was decent.

Looks a lot like this system I got from Jegs I will say the exhaust pipe (from the header to the Muffler) were worthless I don’t know how they would ever have fit. I threw them away and just bought 48” mandrel formed pipe and welded everything in. The rest of the kit was good. Sound is it crazy, but sounds good when you want to hear it.

I’m glad to hear, I was kinda leaning towards the Hooker system.

I’m hoping to be able to install this myself. When I installed the 700 trans, I had to move the crossmember back. Now the pass side exhaust pipe is sitting hard on the crossmember, everything rattles and vibrates now. I have a pair of headers I have been wanting to install for a while, I figure now would be the time to do all of this.

The Hooker exhaust is a universal type design for trucks, but actually designed to 100% bolt on with Hooker headers. Just trimming of length to fit the various applications, basically. I used it with 2 different sets of Hedman headers though.

I bought the Summit brand for my K-10. It went together well. It came with two options on the tail pipe exit. Straight out the back or behind the rear tires. I had it welded at the local muffler shop when I had finished it. It's been on the truck for 4 years.

I have used the Dynomax kits many times. I like them and that's all I buy.

I bought a Pypes system for one of my 2wd trucks. The pipes were bent correctly but I spent a ton of time trying o get them tucked up and fitted the way I wanted them. Used a aftermarket crossmember and it had headers.
