I doubt GM would have spent the money to stamp a hole, then design a plug to fill it up if it had no purpose.

I did check, the adapter from the passenger side seems to fit the drivers side. So it appears they are interchangeable.

Yes they would; we did it all the time.

Foundational pieces like frames rails, radiator supports, body panels have to accommodate every single option combination. So there might be a hole that doesn't get used on your truck but is required for somebody elses.

Additionally - it wasn't a hole that got plugged. It's a knockout, tooled into the stamping (so the price is buried in the tooling cost and forgotten about). If it's not needed - no action is required. It just goes along for the ride.

Yes - the "birdcage" adapters are common side to side.

After looking at Keith's post; what I did was weld a second snorkel in the exact opposite location as the factory position. I ordered two new plastic hoses from LMC Trucks. The driver's side didn't fit as good as the pass side, but after driving the truck a little, the engine heat allowed the tube to seat itself on the baffle in the core support. Hope this helps.

My brainstorm idea is to use another stock air cleaner, carefully cut the snorkel out and weld it to my existing air cleaner and use another grill opening adapter.

I wanted stock looking on the outside with no restrictions, so I removed the flapper assys from the snorkels and sealed up the holes. Inside the base, I removed the inner screen and pellets but left the outer screen. I did install a diffuser plate inside in front of the second snorkel to match the factory side. I had two of these fiberglass dual snorkels made. I painted each one to match the color of the truck I put them on. They have been on for 20 years and still work great.

I've not seen any use the driver's side, pretty sure they all used the pass side. But you could probably just rob extras of the pass side to make your own, I doubt it would be that hard other than welding the other snorkel to the lower housing (just cuz it's kinda thin metal)

IIRC my 1980 with 250ci inline 6 was driver side, PS was hacked open partially to run A/C condenser hoses

Need to make the same set up, but for a 4bbl 4.3 that is getting reworked. Might just use the Spectre (?) stuff cobbled together. Gotta “fancy up” everything on Lisa’s lowrider tow pig, the C10 has a “pet” flat windshield Super Beetle…

Spray paint color test. Will be done in actual automotive urethane base/clear. Mopar Sublime green door cards, seat pipng and seatbelts that I rewebbed using factory hardware. ARE 8 spokes, will have Waterfall 195/55vr15 fronts, 215/70r15 rears.

New 1406 for the truck arrived today. Will order a 2111 intake next payday. Swiped the new manual choke Qjet for 1 of my 350 powered 4wd gmt400s…

So I came across a dual snorkel off a ‘84 Camaro in a LKQ yard yesterday. Any idea how hard it would be to make this work on a 350TBI or is it not worth the trouble? Went to swap it on my truck and the base sits lower than my stock base and runs into a bunch of sensor brackets and other stuff. Also, it’s vacuum operated so if I decided to use the aircleaner base where would I tie into vacuum for it and will it work as well as the expanding pellet thermac on my TBI or better or worse? Just wondering before I sell this thing if I can actually put it to good use? Maybe cut the center out and use the center out of my stock aircleaner? Maybe use a spacer but the stock TBI aircleaner already has that spacer so is stacking good or bad? What do yall think?
