Roof lights

I have a 1986 C10 2wd long wheel base. I know after 38 years these trucks get mixed and matched. My cab once had roof lights and someone removed them and did a crap job with bondo. The wiring is still there and it works. My question is what trucks came with lights? 4x4 and C20’s ?

It was a 1 ton thing I'm pretty sure unless special ordered. Some people add them. I think there cool personally. I'd put them back on.

My 76 C10 was ordered with cab lights, was optional on any CK truck from what I understand.

In 1976 the RPO code was U01. I can dig up a picture of the SPID sheet if anyone wants to see it.

RPO U01 is correct.

They were a free flow option on any truck, but required on any vehicle over 80 inches wide.

So - required on duallys and some K30 single wheels (because the front hubs would stick out past the 80 inches).

Cab lights are a status thing. If you don't have 8 lug wheels you shouldn't be sporting cab lights. Same goes for recovery hooks. Carry on.

My factory roof lights on my K30 have a big hole, under the light, that the wiring comes through and threaded holes for the screws. What does the roof of your truck look like?

That looks to be a hole-saw job there. I don't see a flange where the u-nut goes for the fastener either. The "chicken" lights can go on any C/K; I've got a half ton Sub with them now as well as two 30 series trucks.

Well, it looks like you better put some kind of lights on there, just to cover the holes. Probably not factory equipped with roof lights. The wiring should be coming out of the holes.
You can probably find some aftermarket lights and screw them on and hook up the wires and you are good to go. Gotta love "chicken lights", mine has them on the tail gate too!

The roofs changed at some point. Iirc, the earlier ones are just big open holes and sheet metal screws holding the light down. The later ones are a different stamping with nuts welded in.

After I posted a pic on here about them I was told they are not factory, based on the lights themselves plus the location and orientation of the lights. Either way I like them (despite the fact I still can't get one of them to work.)
