is the extent of the frame rot on this donor frame(or is this your one youre using) the center area where it dips down under the cab and bed on driver side?Good info, thanks. About how much did that bare frame weight when it was broken down? Here is a picture of mine, with the rail to be removed highlighted. Im keeping the crossmembers intact on the rail I plan to keep hoping that keeps some degree of perpendicularity. I started making some comparative measurements between the 2 frames and I'm seeing a 3/16" difference center to center on the mid crossmember rivets.

I did think about that when i was looking at it one day, compared to the rotting out mounts for my k25 1980 which had a one piece driveshaftYes. That x-member is heavy.

I don’t get it. Some minor bullshizzle from 18 years ago. Are you saying that because of that, now if you go for a classic car plates in NC, they inspect that every available identifier must be numbers matching or at least old enough to be a classic car?Welcome to NC. It's because of this guy that the rest of us with out-of-state pre '81 vehicles have to suffer

Yeah….what in the Bible Belt is up with Kansas? That’s crazy.Kansas has been out of state sales to Kansas residents had to have a VIN verification for at least the last 40 years, and sometimes on antique registrations. Also antique registrations have to be original vehicles,no LS swaps,no mag wheels, etc. It sucks when you buy a truck from MO. that's already been messed with and you have to hunt down original wheels etc. to register it.

And that the dmv inspects the frame?
GFG…. (Good fckin grief)
no vin checks but they probably include a provision buried in a paper that you consent to have your crap vandalized to confirm compliance at the discretion of state policeYeah….what in the Bible Belt is up with Kansas? That’s crazy.
Here in Libtardistan they don’t even care. Curiously enough, even, there are NO VIN checks whatsoever.
youre overthinking it^I don’t understand that…
Nothing to get your "axle" wrapped about, @SquareRoot.Either way, it's a candidate for an LS swap. OP might want to start calling random businesses' all over the country for quotes....

Well I've seen quotes on Kansas web sites about how much it curbs auto theft. And even though it can be a PITA I can see the good in it. Somebody in a state with no VIN inspection could steal your truck and buy a 500.00 beater truck, sell your truck with the 500.00 beater title and you are out of a truck and someone is legally or anyway they think are legally driving a nice truck they bought for a good deal out of state. But if they brought your truck to Kansas and went to register it,red flag, out of state title so it gets a VIN check, your truck gets recovered. Or you go to register an antique you just restored,,except you are shady,it's really built out of a stolen truck. Red flagyour antique got VIN checked. I'm sure no one thinks it's a problem but how many people on here are so worried their truck is going to get stolen. All states should have a system like Kansas to help protect your truck. They even check the engine number, and if they check your stuff and nothing on it with numbers is reported stolen, you have no problem. That Corvette that got so much attention, well who knows with media and internet being what it is but supposedly something that was left out of that story was VIN plate and Frame number didn't match,it wasn't just the rivets, that was just the tip off. Changing a frame isn't a problem in Kansas,BUT it has to be documented. Kansas runs the numbers nation wide through nmvtis. And yes people could still steal a truck and part it,but that involves too many people, too many transactions, and too tracable to a physical location. Not like selling a whole truck to an unsuspecting person on the internet, meeting them some where to test drive it exchange cash and bogus title in a safe location. 1 sale full price.Yeah….what in the Bible Belt is up with Kansas? That’s crazy.
