MY6 clutch.. which size?

The video cannot be viewed, it's private. Perhaps taking out the zbar for closer inspection is in order. With it out you can grip the flat spots and free up the nut.

Corrected the permissions. Without being able to take that nut off, CAN I remove it?

From the video it doesn't seem to have the slot like the older trucks do. I thought it did. Or maybe I'm just not seeing it.

That's kinda what I thought. It appears to be some kind of insert into the z-bar with stud thru the tab, nut on out side. I've soaked it in PB in prep for the clutch job Monday. I'm just concerned that if I get that nut off, get it apart, I won't be able to put it back in, and LMC only lists the z-bar but not the nut / bolt / bushing/ thingamabob.

Anyone else with a standard with a setup like this?

If I recall there is a hex on the other side you can slip a wrench onto so you can loosen or tighten the ball stud that goes into the bushing on the z-bar. either one size larger or smaller than the nut. I was looking for a breakdown of it but couldn't find one quickly. I imagine it is something like the attachment tho.

Also, i believe since you are removing the bell housing you can slip the ball stud on the bell housing out of the z-arm and then slip the z-arm off the ball stud on the frame bracket. There may be some sort of clip on one or both sites holding it all together.

Note: This is all only relevant if the ball stud is located on the bell housing. It has been about 10-15 years since I have worked on one of these so it's a bit fuzzy.

Working on my clutch job this morning and checking out the z-bar.. when I reached up into the frame side of the z-bar to check out the bushing, my hand came away with pieces of plastic (it appears to be pieces of the third item (I'll call it the cup) in-board of the frame tab) that was all deteriorated and falling apart, hence the slop in the z-bar.

Now for the real tricky, scary part... trying to locate rebuild parts for the z-bar. LMC lists the bar, but none of the attachment parts!

I would attempt a dealership. May not be too old yet. They can search other inventories as well. Or at least I could when I worked for one years back...

Otherwise you may need to get creative with some other components.

I bet the LMC z-bar is a complete replacement. Wouldn't hurt to order it. If it's not complete you can always return it.

lmc should be a complete z-bar. the one in the e-bay pic doesn't look right. you can put a wrench on the other side of the frame bracket to get that nut off. at least on mine you can. my frame bracket is bolted on because my truck was an auto. I mentioned this because it makes it real easy to remove the z-bar. it's a good modification. the z-bar should have a grease fitting my guess with that much slop it was never greased and the balls and/or the cups are worn out. another note you can put any size clutch in, they all fit. bigger clutch=longer life. highdesertranger
