250 seems like a lot for a 10 bolt. I could have snagged a set of 3/4 ton axles 10/14FF for $500 with 4.56s. from a wreckers. I should have and then sold them for more. oh well.

So I guess 250 per. but its just a 10 bolt. Im pretty sure you can fully rebuild yours for under a $1000 your self. But that's not $250 either.

I definitely would not put 4 hours of driving time on that old thing LOL I would be scared to go around the block!

I am going to borrow my fil's truck to go get it.

I prob need gears and bearings. Which will cost almost as much or more after tools. The axle in getting just came in last week. An old airport vehicle, supposedly running but has a coolant leak.

I wish i could find a 10 bolt for like 100 but they don't seem to exist. This will at least get me back on the road.

What do i need to convert a 90 241c to mechanical speedo? I can get that from the same truck for another 100.

You need the rear bearing retainer from an 89. also need the gear and sleeve to drive the speedo cable. If you go to a gear shop they should be able to get it for you.

I know these guys can http://www.gearcentre.com/

I told them to pull it, even though i fly here daily, i can't get a vehicle over here until the 6th to bring it home.

Im really curious about the crossmember interchange. It would be awesome if was correct to replace my bent one

It may be the same crossmember. At any rate it should. But be sure to grab the crossmember from the 90' as you never know.

I had a 700r4/208 from the factory in my 84' then swapped to TH400/208, then I swapped in a 4L60/241 from a 90' Burb with the 90' Burb crossmember and I had to drill new holes so it will be interesting to find out how yours goes.

I have an 87' 3/4 ton frame I am restoring and it came with an SM465/208 and it looks to be the same crossmember as the one out of the 90'

After all that lol the 4L60 and the 700r4 are the same case so if you bolted up your existing crossmember and transmission mount it should work just fine as the adapters should be the same.

You will really like that 241 when ever you get into rebuilding it. Super easy!

Double checked play tonight and compared to front end. Front has zero, nice and tight as it should be, back has about 1mm 1 way/2mm total all around including in&out. So not as much as i thought, but still more than should be.

The crossmember i have is tweaked, but after closer inspection (trying to figure out how to drop driver side tank) the frame is tweaked too. Someone must of hit something hard but managed to not get anything else? Weird.

The excessive play in the pinion, at least i think it is excessive. It wasn't there a few months ago. And the whining noise under acceleration.
My last post was more of an addendum to my original post.

Sound has been there since i got it, the excessive play is new(from what I've read any is excessive). Obviously the years of neglect from the previous POs continue to haunt me.

In my experience rear ends with noise usually just do the catastrophic failure thing. Most people get it fixed before that happens though.

Or sell it to some unsuspecting bloat. Every time I go look at one of these old squares it seems like the guy is trying to hide some major problem. For me I don't care cause Im just looking for parts trucks, but its funny how they think they are pulling the wool over my eyes
