Ya most of the ones I go look at are just rust buckets. Most don't even have any thing usable to salvage unless your looking for a block or axle tube to rebuild lol. But guys still post them for $1500 I think its funny the look on their faces when I roll my eyes and tell them to have a nice day. They honestly think they are worth something LOL

I see the prices of these old trucks are starting to go up too if they are in good shape.

Both pinion bearings and 1 carrier bearing have large flakes of metal coming out of them. 3 of 4 spiders are pitted/chunked.

Unsure about ring/pinion, going to get AFM opinion on them now. Look worn poorly too me.

If i had the cash, now would be the prefect time for posi and/or 4.10s. But i don't think i have funds to do front too.

Im not sure what to say about the crush sleeve. I do know that sometimes you have to reinstall the pinion more than once to get it all set up right. Like if you crush it to far and then have to back it off. then you need a nother crush sleeve to crush. So that eliminator would be good for that I guess.

If your going to as it sounds like you might just replace every thing. Get a Detroit Tru Trac. It is awesome! No more spider gears and next best thing to a locker but even tougher. It is a load biasing differential carrier that operates at all speeds

somehow my carrier is dinged a bit where the bearing presses on. i will post a pic. tomorrow. everything came out good and there are no wear marks on the axle from it so i'm not sure if it will make any difference in the long run.

so i might have to look into the Detroit locker, about 200.00 total more than I probably need to spend for new spiders/possibly a used carrier case (180.00 total).

is this the install kit i would need for the Detriot? http://www.usastandardgear.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ProdID=6599

i have never driven with posi, what is it like. is it good or bad or slippery conditions?

went and had the one bearing removed. it is a weird flat spot but everyone says should be no issues. so i am just going to get spiders for it and put it back together. would love posi but just can't justify the cost right now especially when i probably need a T-case too, or at least a rebuild

Its like the best posi ever its almost like a locker in some ways except that it does allow both wheels to turn independently just wont allow them to spin independently.

The difference between an open diff and a posi is night and day when mudding or in the snow. Problem is that a lot of limited slips are not really all that great.

I don't know any body who has put one in the front. I am curious too. Theoretically it should steer just fine but I dunno
