I apologize in advance if this has already been covered but I have an 85 with a 305, rochester carb and 700R4 transmission and I would like to remove all the emissions vacuum line spaghetti under the hood.

Don't need emissions here in MS and I have already removed the smog pump and plugged the tubes going to the exhaust manifolds.

There are several connections going to the intake and the thermostat housing. As you can see in the pics, some of these lines were actually broken off.

I have the stock air-cleaner and would like to keep the cruise control working and the vapor cannister as well.

Can someone tell me what some of these components are and what needs to be gone?
Also, where to plug in the vac advance on the carb.

Are the things I'm pointing to in the pictures needed?

It would be much easier - for all parties involved - if you were able to provide the EPA code for your setup. It will be on the top of the radiator support frame and consists of a three alpha character sequence (e.g. UHJ, UHK, etc.)

Also some images taken from further out would help a lot too. If you want to maintain the EVAP system, include an image of the top of the canister.

Some other info that would help:

Are you okay with disabling the EGR system?
Do you have AC?
Are you trying to keep the Thermac system operational?
Is the Rochester carburetor a Quadrajet (i.e. 4 bbl)?
Power brakes I'm pretty sure - right?
The 700R4's TCC is currently working and you probably want to keep it that way?
Ignition is ESC (with a tip-in vac switch)?

Chengny,
I do have AC.
I would like to keep the vapor Cannister and Cruise Control working.
Rochester Quadrajet 4bbl
Power brakes
700R4 Trans and I don't know what the TCC is but I prolly want to keep it running, I hate transmission problems.
The HEI does have some extra wires going to it prolly does have the ESC.

I can get better pics and the EPA code when I get home tonight.

I appreciate the help.

The torque converter clutch locks the torque converter at a 1:1 ratio with the engine in fourth gear to minimize slippage, heat, and improve economy. If you need any help in the flesh, and you’re reasonably close to me, I don’t mind taking a look. I’m not too shabby with this stuff.

Oh, crap. You’re a ways off. I was hoping you were going to say something south of Canton. No worries. I and others can help from here.

Here are some pictures I just took. Looks like UHJ is the code.

Okay UHJ = 5.0, federal emissions (not CA), AT and not high altitude:

Here is the original vacuum routing diagram - same as on your radiator support:

You didn't respond to the EGR or Thermac questions. So I'll just guess and go with EGR delete and keep the Thermac functional - and just do the best that I can.

This is what you should end up with when you're done stripping all the unused tubing, vacuum switches and delay valves;

With the vacuum routing as shown above, you will retain full functionality of the EES (evaporative emissions system), ESC and the Thermac system - along with vacuum advance for the distributor and a vacuum supply for the cruise control and HVAC control. And your engine will look a lot cleaner.

Wow,
awesome job Chengny.

Sorry I missed some stuff. Yes, my plan was to remove the EGT Valve but I'm not sure what thermac but is it that little vacuum door on the air cleaner that has a coupe of vacuum lines going to it and the little wedge filter?

Well, finally got the carb installed yesterday. Fired right up the first time. Had the carb restored by allamerican carburetor and i give these folks a big thumbs up! Carb came back to me looking like the day it rolled off the assembly line. New base gasket, air-cleaner stud and they even included a new electric choke pigtail. Vacuum line nightmare is alot better thanks to the help i got here. I noticed the idle was pretty high and then realized I had it hooked up to manifold vacuum. Once I selected a ported vacuum source, all was good. Regretfully, i was working alone and trying to beat the snow so I failed to take pictures but I will. I suspect I will continue to eliminate more vacuum lines as I keep tinkering with it.
